if you are sure the factory didn't seal them I would for sure-only cost a couple $$ but good insurance _________________ "Always waiting for tomorrow ruined everything"

I threw some wood sealer on the backs of my panels, but mostly for protection against window leaks (vent windows being left open/failed seals) or door panels getting rained on. Unless you live in a really humid climate, I don't think sealer is necessary. _________________ Erik

Im busy doing my 78 Westy down to bare metal respray,i need it to last and look like new.
I think some thinly coated varnish might do it. _________________ ---------------------------------------------------------

Sealing the backside of a laminated countertop is a good idea to prevent warpage . The laminate is impervious to moisture but the other side isn't and can absorb ambient humidity and can expand causing warpage. That's why those crappy home depot countertops are always cupped. Be careful in your case because the substrate is so thin too heavy of a coat of finish may soften the glue holding the laminate on. Thin fast drying coats is best. |

I most definitely would seal those new panels with a marine grade spar varnish, on the backside. Cheapest insurance you can get. Good luck with the resto, and post us some pics! |

I will also be using Dynamat extreme as sound proofing, can I also use Rockwool? If so,where do I fit the vapour barrier if needed? _________________ ---------------------------------------------------------

Be cardful what you use to seal those panels. I personally would use an oil based sealer. You want something with low VOC's. I chose a water based outdoor spray bomb urethane. It's called Rustoleum "varathane". Good luck! |
