Ok, so I’m cautiously optimistic that this will actually happen, but personally, I think they f*cked up the new beetle and I’m not so sure about the new Microbus concept car.
If they reboot the Thing, they better keep it simple, with detacheable doors, fold down windshield and lots of ground clearance. I doubt they can pull off a rear engine and we certainly wouldn’t see low-back seats. _________________ 1963 Beetle

Whatever they would come up with would be a pale imitation of the original type 181 due to customer expectations for comfort, and modern safety requirements and in effect. You can pretty much forget about a folding windshield. There will be, at minimum, air bags for the front passengers. Those lightweight doors? Gone due to side crash protection. For anyone that's put up and taken down a 181 top, you know that any replacement vehicle will have a better mechanism. You'll also see stronger bumpers, crash sensors, better instrumentation, comfier seats, better passenger heating and cooling, modern lighting, and more. |

A few years back someone here posted a rendering of a modern Thing concept. I can’t find it in the gallery. _________________ 1963 Beetle
