I have been working on the firewall and driveshaft/transmission tunnel. Here are a few pics, I used cardboard templates for each piece and then trimmed to fit.
Here is starting point, showing the safety shield also to make sure it fits. I already tried the scatter shield and it fits too. Left it off so it does not get beat up.
Here is the start of the transmission tunnel
Here is the next sections moving towards firewall
The last section. The narrow strip welded into place is for anchoring the shifter and console,
First section of floor!
Still need to do more grinding, sanding, seam sealing, primer and paint.
I hope to keep working and keep posting. Thanks for looking! _________________ The Truth can be brutal, but a lie is worse. |

I got the sheet metal floor laid out and primered. I am working on the brackets for mounting the seats and then figure out where they will be. Then figure out the shifter, pedals, and steering column location. Then I will start on the upper section of the firewall.
Here is the the interior as it is now.
I was able to move the car and get a side shot of what it looks like now. It is starting to take shape.
I will keep working and keep posting. _________________ The Truth can be brutal, but a lie is worse. |

I know, I know, but it has been done so many times. I want to be different.
Picture this:
A factory rear fender widened 10 inches with the snowflake lights and enough tire showing to let you know it is there. Kind of like a really sexy negligee.
OK, maybe I like my car a little TOO MUCH.

Loving the build so far, but I'm gonna have to vote for no fenders too. I can envision what you're going for, but I'm afraid with the giant bulbous rear fenders and nothing up front the car is going to end up looking like a giant twig & berries rolling down the road. _________________ 1973 Superbeetle: 1st car, owned since age 12. OK, you guys have me thinking. When I get far enough along I can mock up with and without the rear fenders to show what I have in mind. I can post the pics and take a vote. How does that sound? _________________ The Truth can be brutal, but a lie is worse. |

I have been working on a lot of different areas on the car. One major thing was getting the "W" lid! Got it from Jbugs and it is very nice quality and good fit right out of the box.
Here is a pic
With the Popes nose
I have a lot more going on and will show more as I go. _________________ The Truth can be brutal, but a lie is worse. |

I have been busy working on the car. I have been looking for a long time for emblems or badges that can be modified to represent a "V8 VW" I could not find anything so I decided to make one. I started with a piece of carbon fiber. Had a VW engraved into it. I painted the engraved area with red paint, then made the carbon fiber into the shape of an 8. I used oval shapes for the top and bottom of the 8, since it is going into an "Oval". The "V" in the background is made from polished aluminum. I have made a few of these to use in different places on the car. Here is what one looks like up close
Here it is after a coat of clear put together.
Here is a video that shows some of the steps I used to make it and some other work I am doing on the car.

Thanks for the kind words!
I ordered the zoomie headers today. Should be here in a week or two. They are made by Sanderson, they are for the" Highboy" small block chevy. The main sectoin of the tubes are 19 inches long. This should be a perfect length. They will come out of the opening where the front fender use to be. After I get them the plan is to start laying out the steering from the steering column to the steering box. I have all of those parts already. They are stainless steel by Borgeson. Then I will have a complete steering roller chassis. This will be the focus of the next video.

Well the zoomies finally came. I had a chance to put them on to see how they fit. It was exactly what I was looking for. I was able to move onto the steering and get it working. I can steer it now when I move it around, so much easier.
Here is a pic of how it sits now:
Also the next video is up, part12:

Thank you both for the compliments. I have been watching your builds and know that you realize how much work and time these projects take (and money, LOL). It is a labor of love.
It is so cool that we each add our own touch to our cars. They have so much character that they are so cool in their own way! Much different than the new cars being made today.
Thanks again for the kind words and good luck to you both on your projects! _________________ The Truth can be brutal, but a lie is worse. |

I guess the cooling system is one of your secrets.......... I haven't seen any mention of where you are going to place the radiator. I've been wondering.... |
