Mounted up a really old pie Crust Continental GERMAN MADE tire.
Put in a tube and mounted it to a really nice restored smoothy rim.
(thanks preacher)

I swapped out the 019 distributor for the stock one in my '57 Bug. Took about 20 minutes including installing condenser and setting the points. Then I had to warm up the car for the final timing setting (always looking for an excuse to drive it.) That brings up a question...

Is the vacuum on the stock 28PCI carb manifold vacuum instead of just above the throttle blade? I installed and timed (with a timing light) the rebuilt distributor without the vacuum. Then I replaced the vacuum line. The idle speed and advance shot up. A quick crack of the throttle would pull the timing back near the mark briefly before it started rising with rpm, so everything seems to be working correctly.

I'm the third owner of my beetle and the story is that the original owner requested a Dehne fuel gauge installed by the dealership. Due to age it broke and was removed for repairs but was lost/sold away. So this weekend I fixed that putting a Denhe fuel gauge back in the dash. Wink

Removed the broken Dehne sending unit and replaced it with a refurbished one:

I also mounted the missing gauge back into the dash. From the looks of it, I think the faceplate is a reproduction from Brezelwerks:

Finally got my long travel ball joints Installed,
Built my beam and installed in the car.
It's just a mock up right now.
I will fine tune it once the rest is together.
By The way-This 56 is sitting on a 71 pan.
Hence the ball joint beam 👍👍👍✌️

Put disc conversion on front. Put in dual circuit master cylinder. Ran new brake lines. Cleaned and painted steering box and tie rods. Just need to finish rear brake plates with new slave cylinders and hardware.

Hi there,

In looking at your photo of the turnsignal housing, it looks like the "heart" lens is sticking through the metal housing too far. You might be missing the weatherstripping seal between the "heart" lens and the metal housing which will draw the lens lower into the housing and weatherproof it at the same time. Someone sells them, I think it was Brezelwerks...

This weekend I had my '57 oval up on the hoist.
Makes it easy to change the plugs and set the valves.
New fuel filter next to the transaxle.
I gave the front end a grease job then noticed

Very common on king and link pin Bugs. The steering stops are the forward bolts holding each front backing plate on the spindle. First, you should inspect the front suspension for signs of damage or excess wear. In many cases the cause is just wider than stock wheels. Then to eliminate the problem you need to install a slightly longer front backing plate bolts. Don't get carried away as you could excessively limit steering.
