I would like to convert my SWB type 4 to a high top camper. I live in Canada and there don't seem to be any North American manufacturers who produce high-tops for T4's.

What are my chances of finding one in a scrap yard? Too rare of a vehicle?

I don't think you'll have much luck finding one in a scrap yard. The only high top importer I have seen is in Arizona. cc-91tech.com

I swapped a few emails with the owner and he says he can get any production Zillka or Westfalia roof and can also make custom ones. There is a Syncro high roof Eurovan / T4 shown in his "Cars for Sale" section that appears to have the Zillka top: http://cc-91tech.com/cars%20for%20sale.html

Reimo is probably your best bet for a hightop. BTW, there's a Westfalia hightop T4 for sale on the BC Craigslist right now.

I've been thinking about the same thing (also in BC), ditching the pop top for some more room all the time.

These units are available from a number of outfitters in the UK -- in swb and lwb configurations. Doesn't make sense to ship them here one at at time -- group buy is the way to go.

Yea that thing is a beauty. I don't have the coin for it unfortunately. I've got the same year eurovan that I'm slowly converting to a westy. That's the end goal though.

That is so fucking cool. How much would it cost all in to convert a winnie camper to the hightop roof?

Since an EVC is a long wheelbase, your best bet is to figure out if Reimo still makes one in that length. I just checked and it doesn't look like they still offer them in LWB, but they do have a Weekender type poptop to replace the crappy ones that Winnebago installed.

Got it- I'm finding that LWB parts are HARD to find. Thanks for the heads up on the weekender poptop.

I was hoping to put one of these on my swb MV...

I sadly believe they're not available at the moment.

I've been in a hightop t4 and it was ridiculously loud. it also pretty much negates the benefit of having a camper you can put in your garage.

Having owned both pop-top and high-top Vanagons, I can say that I prefer the pop-tops. However, I think the Dehler outfitted vans are too cool to not want one:

These is a Hightop shop in Los Angeles. I checked out the tops they are making and they are first rate. Not cheap but worth the money. They have a LWB Eurovan and a Weekender mild already made. You can add windows, liner, supports etc...

Re: "Not cheap but worth the money," do you have a ballpark price on those? I'm curious what price range they go for.

I'm still surprised no one sells a proper fiberglass replacement pop top for the Winnebago EVCs.
