Mont the square is looking good. Love all the things you have added. Love the scenery picks and the trailer. My buddies keep telling me that my square is done stop spending money on it you have 11 more VW to build but It's hard when you see something that would be cool on your ride . I tell them I have the rest of my life to build the rest.
I'm looking fwd to restoring my allstate trailer to pull behind the notch.im sure I will have questions for you.

do you have a corrected invoice with the corrected pattern for your carpet? My friend just got his, from WCM (It's TMI) and the heater grommets are back in the wrong place again. UGH - Idiots _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

I’ll check for it but I believe he may have to contact TMI directly and inform them of the issue. Item should be under warranty. I say that as it’s possible that package your friend bought has been or was sitting on a shelf for who knows how long either at WCM or TMI so it may be from the ‘old/outdated’ lot. Hard to say without someone on the inside at TMI. I’ll look for it in my folder and let you know in teh AM as I'm not home at the moment. _________________ MonT3

Yes, I know it's hard to say enough. I'm just trying to close the loop on it even though I have an engine build in the works. I'm planning my next build and I don't even have the space you do!!! Do what you like to your ride. It's an expression of your soul man! _________________ MonT3

Had something odd take place a few days ago. I was in the garage ready to take the car out and turn it around. I normally move the shifter and placed the car in reverse then in neutral to check the reverse lights but this time I noticed no rear lights. I checked the in-line fuse and found it had popped so I replaced it. I had the car backed in the garage and wanted to turn it around so I started the car and pulled it out into the street and placed it in reverse when a fuse under the dash popped (Stop light and turn signal, #4 from the right) and the car died right there. I got another fuse and replaced it and tried again and popped it again. I pulled the in-line fuse and replaced the one up front and the car started and I was able to get the car back into the garage.
Guess now I have a short somewhere or maybe a bad sensor? Has anyone experienced this sort of event with their reverse setup? _________________ MonT3

Something is shorted, but the ignition isn't fused from the factory...sounds like something isn't wired right. _________________ 71 Elm Green FI A/T Squareback |

There's all of that stuff that takes off of the + side of the coil to watch for..
On carb cars it's the chokes, idle cut-off solenoids, reverse lights, and "Old Crispy" the black wire that runs up to the ignition switch.
Plus whatever else someone might have decided to take off of there..
I have had a PO wire the chokes too short, where it got tangled up in the linkage, and did similar things as you are getting.
So check them all - Not fused.
Carefully inspect Old Crispy - with it's lumpy melted/missing insulation.. _________________ Bus Motor Build

Thanks for the info guys.
This is a new harness with new wire ran from the sensor to the coil and lights. No extra stuff is ran to the fuse box. Even the relay setup I built and put in isn't wired at all and when I do wire it in, it's going from batter y to circuit breaker to separate fusebox. Just an odd event. I'll check everything and report findings in a day or two. _________________ MonT3

I was able to get my ground sorted out. Seem the wire for my driver’s side rear light was grounding against the port. The un-insulated wire terminal (female) was connected to an insulated one (male) which was inside a boot. The wire began to touch the light post/bolt so it was causing that issue to unfold. The terminal is now insulated and all works well.
Also completed my rear cargo cover. This my rendition of what’s out there in reproduction..
I modified my framework design to allow for the outer cover to slip on top of the back piece to allow the engine lid to opened without obstruction...
Now I can get back to the relay setup for my aux lighting. _________________ MonT3

Now that looks good. Nice way to set it up so you can still access the engine cover. Great work as always.
Good on you finding your ground issue. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

WARNING: Viewing these pics will cause purist to cringe. viewer discretion advised.
Last night I took a break from the engine and began to work on my bracket for my light buttons. I initially started with a piece of metal that I cut, shaped and fitted into the lower portion of the dash where the radio mounts. I wasn't happy with the outcome so I when to ABS plastic and tried my hand at that. It too came out looking like ass so I pulled out my last alternative which was at one time my first. I cut the radio mount in three sections and took the ends and JB Welded them back together. I had to build up two areas to make contour lines match but it came out better than expected.
The inner edges of the bracket will get trimmed down some but it's there to support the ABS piece being inserted with drilled holes for my light switches, UBS charger and one those cig lighter looking chargers
The downer to this is that it won't have the chrome finish. Out of curiosity, I picked up a can of Duplicolor 'Chrome' spray bomb and tested the color out on a separate piece of metal to see and it looks like aluminum, so that's out. My options for this are gloss black or if anyone has a different paint that I can spray on that would give me a chrome look...I appreciate the assist. _________________ MonT3

I got around to cleaning up the JB weld material and did some more test fitting of my ABS to get it to fit in its place. No cutting into or items dangling from the dash. I'm going to order two more switches to swap colors. Been thinking on pulling apart the charger and soldering longer wires to replace the attached short ones. Almost there...

Nice little switch nacelle there..
Don't forget to put the switches for your electric seat heaters in there, too.. _________________ Bus Motor Build

Thanks Clatter. No heated seats for me here.
I got my bracket mounted...
Look forward to wiring this up to my relay switch in the background. Almost done.
On another note... Been thinking of painting my front visor Gloss black. I'm not sure the item would survive a trip through the powder coating process being the mesh is thin. I believe it' melt. Has have any information on it or know someone who may have done that or even painted theirs?
The other piece being considered is the swamp cooler - Blue body with black ends... _________________ MonT3

Back at the Counts of the Cobblestone Car Show in town. Not a big turn out as last year than last year. This is just the arena area. The car got some updates on a few things and I'm happy with them. New phone and trying to learn it as some of my pics were probably huge and were removed. Trying to get that handled. More to follow...

I'm sure you get lots of compliments from all the guys & gals there. Women love squarebacks! You ought to buy those camping hinges from KollynnBlackpaw. _________________ 69 FI/AT square Daily Driver

Thanks for the compliments guys. Not sure the Huls would do me any good but would be nice to stretch out in the back and camp.
This weekend's show was cut short due the storm coming in from Wy. I've never seen older, mature men became really concerned as they had no means (trailer) to get their cars home. I slipped out while the flakes were small and got the car home and went back for my truck. By the time I got back home the flakes larger and steady in their fall. Over all I had a good time. Took 1st place for the second year. Here are a few pics from the show...
Now, back to the engine build. _________________ MonT3
