The most Ghias we've had in one place in New Zealand for quite a while - at the VW Jamboree in Auckland on 15 October 2017.
Typical Auckland weather - rain, sunshine, wind, sometimes all three at the same time.

Here's my 71.
And a video of me carving up Sheep Canyon Rd a few weeks ago. I love driving this car. The 2110 motor has enough torque that I don't need to bother with shifting if I'm doing at least 40mph. I never got below 45 and was probably doing 50-55 most of that drive. Lots of bugs not that long ago - now they're all but gone for the season.

And the 'business' end of the Ghia.
And the car the way I found it:
It started life with a Bahi Red paint job. I have no idea why the nice red paint would be covered up with this crappy black. Previous owners! Damn. _________________ 71 Ghia Coupe - stock body - no rust! Powered by a 2110 W/Dual HPMX 44's - Rancho Pro Street Transaxle - A/C by Gilmore

Hello, and welcome!
That's a pretty sweet looking Ghia you've picked up there, Congratulations.
Your boy is very lucky, and must be pretty darn excited. |

Headliner and sun visors are good. _________________ 63 Karmann Ghia Coupe

Well here I am in the Ghia world. Just purchased this 1970 a few weeks ago and bringing it back to life after sitting since 2004. Mileage shows 55,880 which I believe to be original based on the paperwork and the fact that the tire date codes were from 1979 with like 90 percent tread still on them.
Photos are how I bought it and as it is now after sanding off most of the one respray it had back in the day. Only rust was surface rust in the rear driver's side floor pan with one very small hole, the rest of the metal was pristine with just a few small dings which is why I bought it.
I've rebuilt the suspension, all new brakes/lines/calipers, master cylinder, new tires (of course), wheels in the rear (ordered the fronts), and a good flush and reseal of the fuel tank and all new rubber lines. New oil and screen and lastly new ball joints/tie rods and 2" narrowed beam. Drives like a dream now, moving onto restoring the body, interior, fixing the floor pan, and new rubber and lights. Really looking forward to putting on some miles, really fun to drive, I had now idea what I was missing all these years!
After working on buses the past few years these Ghia's seem so small
