Thanks Buggeee! That's a cool page.
Found that my brake pedal travel was too long due to me not adjusting the rear shoes properly. Adjusted them and checked the others. She stops on a dime or a couple dimes.
Ordered today:
Strut top bearings.
Control arm bushings.
Ball Joints.
Rear Tires.
Onward and upward! _________________ 72 Super - Marina Blue

Nice--I got my suspension stuff from Topline and really like the quality. |
Agree with you there! Everything from Topline has been really good so far. _________________ 72 Super - Marina Blue

This is the one job I've been really looking forward to getting done.
Luckily, my nephew has a really nice shop and lift at his house.
I replaced the ball joints (shot) control arm bushings (not terrible) and the stabilizer bar bushings (shot). The ride home was something I've dreamed of since I bought this little bug. No shake. No shimmy. Solid. Love it.
Getting the old bushings out of the control arms was the part I stressed about. An 8 ton press was as handy as you can imagine. One bolt in the stabilizer bar sheared off so had to drill and tap. Other than that, a pretty easy project. _________________ 72 Super - Marina Blue

I had one stabilizer-bar captive nut break loose inside the frame head. If you turned the bolt, it just spun around. There are four captive nuts that you install through the stabilizer brackets to hold the stabilizer bar to the frame head. If one is broken, your stabilizer bar slides around, which kind of negates the bar's purpose.
The fix was to first cut off the head of the bolt. But that still left one of the four stabilizer-bar attachment points useless, due to the captive nut shearing loose. So ... it was necessary to insert a new bolt upside down from its normal position, via the tiny access hole (the hole with the plastic plug) which is behind the area where the captive nuts reside. Then, I could fasten a nut below to hold the stabilizer bracket on.
Once this was done, I still had the problem with the bolt head inside the frame head. It kept turning, of course, as I wrenched on the opposing nut. So, I had cut an offset box end wrench in half, had a friend weld it back together at a right angle, then inserted this altered wrench inside the little access hole and onto the head of the bolt. Once the bolt head was being held by this wrench inside the frame head, I was able to tighten the nut below to torque (29 lbs. in my case).
If the forward captive nut had been the one that had sheared, I'd have been screwed. Fortunately, it was the rear one.
Talk about dodging a bullet ....

Dialed in the new front end. Very solid at any speed.
New 165/80 15's on the rear.
Mechanically about set for now. Time to start the rest of the project! _________________ 72 Super - Marina Blue

Well I'm just starting the planning now but the usual. The decisions are color, carpet etc. Semi custom while keeping it fairly stock??? Still working it through my thick skull.
Still planning an all new engine build too. Not sure on size etc. But it won't be a screamer. I like my single port dual carb set up. _________________ 72 Super - Marina Blue

Just a few things this weekend.
Replaced the turn signal switch finally. I could only make right turns because I didn't want to break any traffic laws.
And added a tachometer because I love watching her scream up to 3000 rpm.
I kid. I'm a kidder.
Also, I got around to replacing the emergency brake handle.
Carpet ordered so that's next! _________________ 72 Super - Marina Blue

Update:
Putting a new motor in this weekend. Going from an H motor to an AH dual relief.
I’m staying with single port dual carb set up I have now. Here’s a few pics of where I got to today. Should have her in and running tomorrow!
And, yes, this IS a German 034 you see! Finally!!

It went in fine. Got oil pressure up and started right away.
Unfortunately, I didn’t like the sound of it. Exhaust leak, valve noise, rod???
Idk. Definitely making a sound I don’t like. Shut her down so I’ll get into it in the next day or so.
