It's not snow, the neighbor is flocking his Christmas tree and that's overspray. |

Yeah it’s a little strange...nice though. Meanwhile Ventura is burning away. Hope everyone’s ok. |

Yes, snow, and so ends Ghia-driving season until the streetsweepers recollect the sand in the spring.
At least it was a nice shovelworthy 6" dump.
I hate it when the first snow is a meaningless 1/2" dusting in the first week of November and the roads are sanded early. _________________ '71 Ghia coupe |

This photo was from last winter. Built a carport of sorts for my pictured 1958 lowlight and another for my 1959 ragtop bug. No snow yet for this season...
Best,
Thom

Kinda off topic... but after our little snow I changed the oil and drove out to Tucson for band rehearsal. Pretty amazing after five hours of 70mph driving the transaxle crashed as I drove into the cell phone waiting lot to pick up our guitar player from Madrid....the Ghia loves the road but decided that was it for the day, not another mile!!! Well I think she is good hands out here at Bob’s Bug Barn. I’m hoping for a easy fix... My first major break down in 8 years!!!!

I distinctly remember when I was a young teenager back in the 1970s there was a huge blizzard which stranded just about every motorist dumb enough to be out on the country roads around us that night.
I spent much of the evening using my snowmobile to transport stranded drivers to a nearby service station that was being used as a warming station until the roads could be cleared.
Our snowmobile caravan drove over the many very large snow drifts on one particular side road.
I was near the back of the line and I noticed that as the snow on the top of one large drift was being pushed aside by the other snowmobiles driving over it, a small patch of something orange in color under that snow had been revealed.
It turned out to be a stranded VW Beetle that had been completely engulfed by the blowing and drifting snow.
Unfortunately back then our cell phones didn't have built in cameras, so I have no photographic proof to back up my story.
(That really shouldn't be too surprising, as back then our "cell phones" consisted of two tin cans with a very long string stretched between them. Those cans simply weren't large enough to hold a Polaroid camera inside of them.) |

The last winter I lived in northern Manitoba we had 14 feet of snow fall that winter. The chain link fence between our house and the school yard was buried as was our tent trailer and boat/trailer....

We get a little snow sometimes here, too... A car cover helps a bit, but maybe not enough...
What really hurts is the road-salt, which they grossly over-use around here and keeps us off the road in the Ghia almost all winter - even though we rarely get that much accumulation. |
