Hey guys, i recently purchased this 1970 riviera camper from my parents last May. This was the exact bus i grew up in, we traveled all over the east coast, learned stick in, went camping, made skateboarding trips and all that good stuff... Im very excited to have it running again, hopefully ill have it ready for The Charlotte transporter show in 2018.

I will post updates of my progress and whatever i do with the bus, I'm currently a senior in high school and i am paying for everything myself. That being said progress will be made slowly but surely, if you are interested in more pictures i often update my Instagram @cspider7. If anyone has any information about these small pop top Rivieras or just Riviera campers in general i would love to about them as much as possible.

Thanks!

Man I hope you're able to get that bus on the road quickly and start enjoying it! I have a 71 Riviera with the small pop top and it's hard to find some specific Riviera parts.. like the missing lens on your interior light, replacement pop top canvas in the factory color, etc. You're missing the icebox cabinet, was it removed when you were riding around in the bus as a kid? They are not common, the Riviera cabinets I've seen don't actually have a sink, even though they come with a water tank and manual pump faucet.

What are your plans for the bus?

Welcome to the Riviera club! Yours looks great!

There is lots of great information about Rivieras here...
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...ht=riviera

It's great that you're inheriting the family VW, and carrying it on. It's going to be a great vehicle for school and play... as long as you learn how to keep it maintained an running. Enjoy the learning, process. We're here to help if you need it.

Awesome bus, its cool to see another small pop top...

Im planning on getting it mechanically sound, dropping it on a wagens west beam with BBT sprints, all new window seals and new rockers. Then its camping time!

As far as the interior goes i have the cabinet for the rear passengers side and the OG jump seat along with the westy seat in the bus right now. Ill try and get more pics of that later.

good priorities! Save those rocker repairs for last; get some time in the seat before you start chopping at rust. Things can go south quicker than you'd expect once the cookie jar of rust repair is opened!
Do you already have an engine for it? Red Bay Bus

Oh yeah, i'm planning on saving the rust repair until i'm done putting floorpans, and a rear clip on my 65 beetle. Im gonna drive the wheels off it first though, this cold weather needs to go away so i can start camping with it!

As far as the motor i've got pretty much everything for it, once the new year comes i can move the bus over to my dads shop and get some work done!

Great story, great bus, and good on you for keeping it in the family.

Looking forward to seeing it back on the road with repairs progressing.
