windshield and rear window seals, Wolfsburg West
headlight wiring conduit, Wolfsburg West
OIL BREATHER RUBBER VALVE from West Coast metric. other brand cooked in a month.
Beetle Vent Wing Rubber, German, ( the one that goes in the frame) Wolfsburg West
Engine tar Board, Wolfsburg West
front signal light seals Wolfsburg West ( but I like the WCM ones I put on my 66 better)

Forgot, German master Cylinder and German wheel cylinders from WW and three out of four rubber brake hoses. one got attacked by grease with in months. The replacement is from a local place, Bug City. I was able to walk in pick it up and we were out cruising the next day.

Hoping to take Herbie to this

The CVA's "Last Hurrah" Sunday December 4th

Don't put your VW in winter storage yet, we still have one more event to go! Sunday December 4th, "weather permitting" we will be gathering at the Westbrook Town Beach 401 Seaside Ave. Westbrook Ct. 06498 from noon to 3:pm for our Last Hurrah. Last year was our biggest turn out yet with a few of us participating in the town's Annual Tree Lighting parade afterwards, decorating is encouraged! Are you crazy enough to go to a Volkswagen event in December? For more info contact Bill 860-395-9964 [email protected] or Chris [email protected] or www.westbrookct. us for Tree Lighting details.

I went and saw some great VWs. I saw yours and it looked really good and I saw some others that looked good. I liked the bay windows and if I'm not wrong Stanagon was there in the mango. It was a great show and it was great to see all the VWs!

Good thinking. I did a lot of walking too, back and forth between busses and bugs. I talked to a guy with a '70 deluxe bus he had a z bed in, he was real nice and told me all about it and a guy with a newer motor in a red bug that was getting close to 500 horsepower. Next event is the swap and meet up at tanger, I'm hoping to get there.

I guess I've neglected this thread. I'm just reading this now. Thanks for the compliment.

Finally got around to some tire and wheel swapping. Now Herbie has the proper wheel, for a spare anyhow and I can put the spare belt into it like people do.

This goes down as the longest oil change I've ever done, about 5 weeks. You really need to drain that old oil😂 I added the step stud I purchased at the hardware store a few days ago. Originally I was gonna epoxy it in once I retapped the hole for it but went with JB weld after Stock Steve suggested it on FB plus I really do need some to fix the leak on the heat risers.

Also I've known of these step studs for years thanks to bug me video but all this time thought they were a VW specific piece. I did some research here and found Ace Hardware was the place to get them. It wasn't that bad of a process either. I ended up drilling the stripped part of the engine block by hand with a 1/4" drill bit mounted in the tool that holds the tap for making new threads.

Last Sunday at the Connecticut Volkswagen Association’s 2018 Dust Off in Pomfret CT. If we can this is one of the few times we bring both cars to a show. It’s a nice ride mostly through the country side to get there, instead of going through Hartford. Another reason we like to take both out.

My wife and I are big Herbie fans and love VW Bugs so we have been talking about building our own Herbie one day. She was looking at the new Bugs over the summer but we couldn't justify the price for a new one since its our second vehicle. Also the gas mileage wasn't much better than the pick up that I drove at the time. The more we looked into it we wanted an older one more. We especially like the 1960s models.

I have always talked about building some kind of project vehicle especially something older since new cars are so much more of a pain to work on and seem to be made to keep the back yard mechanic away. I spent some time reading VW magazines, a Hanes repair manual and a lot of time researching it on this site. It sounds like a lot of people are having fun doing just what I wanted to do! I recently read someones post at http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=335245 and I was impressed with all the encouragement this person received so I decided to post our little story and some pics. As for any other car made today I would say that they are not worth all this work and just junk them but not a VW.

We originally were planing on doing this in the fall of this year but we found a 1965 near our aria owned buy a guy who got the car from the original owner ( his uncle) in 1981 and we just couldn't turn it down. You can tell this car was his baby once and he took care of it but time caught up to it still. It needs allot of work, like allot of other 1965 VWs but we are in no rush and are looking forward to the challenge. If you care to see the pics they are at

We picked up this rust bucket, later to become Herbie ten years ago today. Wow, time flies.
