Was talking to a oldtimer that used to do body and paint (80's, 90's) he said when they got a car in with beautifully done patched in metal work, they'd always "walnut" those areas in and lay in the mud that way there wouldn't be any outlines later on. Just thought I'd share, was interesting _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

I’ve been a painter for 20 years and routinely have to clean up the mess these “old timer” bodymen create. If by “walnut” u mean beating the panel in so the Bondo is thicker, that is a horrifically bad idea. Bad metal work will always show through in the paint work eventually, regardless of how much mud is piled on top of it.
You can lead these old timers to water, but you can’t make em drink... |

In his defense it was how the shop owner wanted it done. It's amazing to watch him work though, can sculpt anything out of mud quickly and paint it black and you'd never know. Unless checking with a magnet, lol _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |
