While we wait for more participants to step up to the plate, I thought it'd be a good time to dust off some old reading material to give you a little background about the legend of the Beauty.

It is also of important note that the Beauty came from the fabled Shasta Snow Trip Tourist Program. It wouldn't have been possible without the many few contributors in this program. Please read, and transport yourself back at a time when buses were still aplenty and cheap...

As the Shasta Drivers approached the snow fields from the safety of dry dirt roads, they stopped suddenly to reassess their route.

They were a long way from the wilds of Labrador, but yet.........

Write your own ending.

Sorry boys and girls,
Gotta withdraw my name. Some financial things fell thru, just cannot get it all together soon enough. Maybe next year. Single cab not the greatest winter camper anyway.

I guess perhaps 2017 was a disastrous yer for many, but perhaps for other reasons, it seems like it is increasingly difficult to get a good field of participants for SST.
I suppose this has been talked about before, but do any feel it may be time to open it to more YEARS of Vw type 2's?
That being: BAY WINDOW BUSES?
I'm sure some feel strongly about this.

Really, I don't think I was even considering Vanagons, Syncros, Jeeps, Land Rovers nor Humvees.
I was mostly thinking about EARLY bays, T2a's 68-71. Or maybe you want to say gotta be wide 5 wheels? 68-70? No type 4 motors, that would ruin it.
It's beginning to look like only about 10 on this list, I suppose many more show up? In the old days, sometimes there would even be a barndoor or two. But these days, there are precious few "driver quality" splitties with owners so masochistic.
If they allowed a 1970, I could take my 1970 Westy and just drive it the 1800 miles to participate. As it is with the splitty, I don't think I'll drive my 40 hp that far, but rather trailer it.
Just a thought.

Alan Brase, why don't you check with other drivers and offer to copilot? That in itself will motivate you and perhaps others for next year. Wink

Actually, I think I'm too damned broke to even do that. I got divorced about 5 years ago, and got my life back, but much of my assets and income is gone. Plus, I'm retired now, and a few things just fell thru.
BUT, I can work ANY hours I want on my 67 Porsche, 56 Single cab, or 70 Westy till I can barely climb the stairs, drop into bed and my cats don't care. Priceless.
Maybe next year.

If you insert a small metal division bar on your Front windshield you might be able to fool us into bringing your wide 5 bay window. But no promise.

Actually the smaller the group the better it is. Less chaos, confusion and waiting etc. My best SST was in 2007 with just 5-6 of us. Brian led the pack and w e really thrashed the trials in record time. I’ll never forget that year.
