Brazilian door seals

Yeah…Don’t bother to tell me….I knew they were garbage when I bought them.

I bought one to temporarily replace the missing seal on the DS door of my 64 Squareback. I will eventually buy the whole re-build kit for both doors, but for now I just wanted something to keep the water out on those occasions when the car is parked outside of the garage. I knew from reading here that they wouldn’t last more than a year or two, but that was ok with me, what I didn’t realize was there would be serious fitment issues.

My question: Is there supposed to be a slot in the seal to go over the metal lip as per the originals? I’m just wondering if I was sent the wrong seal, or if that is just the way they are. There is no slot in it to fit on the door, so it looks more like a trunk seal or a bug door seal.

Does anyone else have direct experience with this? If so can you tell me if yours had the slot or not? I’m really wondering if they sent me the wrong seal, or if the Brazilian one just comes without the slot.

If so, how do people fit them? Do you just squeeze the thick rubber bit into the existing opening? Or do you try to cut your own slot in the edge all the way round?

To be honest, I never tried the Brazilian outer door seals. I did try the Brazilian outer window scraper, and the trim was way off. I ended up drilling the rivets out, and re-using my old trim with the new seals. The seals themselves were about 3/4s if an inch too short. Most of the Brazilian type 3 parts won't fit o our cars due to the differences in the doors and other parts of the car's body style.

What I used on my old 69 Square was door seals for a 77 Nova 2 door. The seal was almost perfect in length, and actually fit pretty good (better than the nothing I had there when I got the car). A friend was replacing them on his Nova, and I asked if I could have his old ones. I think he paid 75 bucks for a pair of them from AM Soft Seal for his car.

Years ago I got a set of cheap door seals(don’t know for sure if they were Brazilian or not) and I had to slice it to fit the lip. If I remember correctly I had to cut a section out as well because they were too long.

Thanks guys. So I guess the Econo ones that CIP1 sent me just do not come with the slot for the lip.

I wanted to make sure they had sent the right ones before I started cutting into them.
