1965 bug transxel. Pulled out, cleaned up and ready for new gaskets.

Everything going well until I tried to replace the intermediate gasket. Nose cone is off ready to pull the intermediate cover and install new Gasket. Looks like I might Have to loosen the pinion gear from the back side to slide everything out, much deeper than i wanted to get it to it. is there a good way to seal it up or get apart without taking the transmission appart?
