Well its been a bit since I last updated this thread.
Spent the time tweaking things a bit to get a better fit / finish.

Didn't put any set screws or such in (to address any rattle noises.)
To do so would have made manufacture too complex for the price point.
The opinion of my current testers all say its not an issue.
One guy leaves them in a draw when he's on the road. Another, my wife, folds a towel inside the lid (we did this on our Class C for the same reason) and the third person (my BIL) figures its a non issue anyway.
I"d like to get a few more out to nonpartisan testers before I go and offer them up for sale.
So if you're reading this and we talked about you testing them for me. Check your inbox. I'm looking to mail them out.

Price

Well honestly they should be reasonably priced, for sure but, I ain't making these at CheapBay prices. They should be worth more than 25 bucks. Hell the material is more than that for a pair.

So honestly if I can get $40 for a pair I'd be happy. That offsets my material cost and keep me tinkering.
I do have a source for brass, making a pair in brass for myself but that's not cheap. $100 for a pair in brass.

Open for comment and discussion for sure..........
Pictures of the new ones on the stove coming.
Got tile to lay so no brass ones till Monday.
Wanted to be sure my code was good before committing the costly material to an OOoops.

I'm down for a $40 set Cool. I don't know about brass. It'll last a long time if brass?

Dunno about longevity but brass would look pretty sweet!
Especially after some use develops that cool patina.

I had some of those VW ones from Frank C, but found it took longer to heat the rings, then heat the pan.

Ok. Finally got outside to test my parts.
Test material: 1 heaping pots of good ol’ Canadian snow
Ambient temperature: -6 deg C
Time to melt: 3 min 30 secs. Both the aluminum and brass were within seconds of each other.
Time to burn my test dip finger: 6 minutes (ouch)

Pictures show fitment closeups and overall views.

I have two testers, Utah an Naniamo residents.
Looking forward to feedback and opinion.

Aluminum $40 US Brass $100 both include regular postal to your North American residence.
Hope everyone is enjoying this time of year with quality time with their Vanagons. Build memories that will last a lifetime

If you are still planning the 45° offset for stoves like mine, I'm down for a brass set...

Looking at them gives the impression of quality, good design and durability.

Well done! I’m looking forward to buying a pair.

I wonder how one would look as van ornament or small clock, etc. it seems they can be more than a stove grate.

Yeah. I scaled it down and made kick ass rear view mirror emblem. Hung it on a chain.

Clock would be cool. Wonder how I’d hootch the clock assembly?

An old windup assembly would look retro.

Had a few questions about sizes
They’re diameter is 5 1/2 (nominal size)
The middle section is .2 thick
The otter ring is 1/4” thick
6061 aluminum
Or
Yellow brass

The 1/2 moon cut outs that fit over the grill rods are 1/4”
Note how close the plate sits to the two short horizontal grill bars. This dia has fit perfectly on 4 different Westy stoves. One had a tweaked bar that we were able to ‘click’ it down onto. (I actually think it’s going to be better from an anti-rattle perspective.)

My intention is to be as transparent as I can with how they’re made and potential fitment. My concern is IF the grills are fabricated to +- 1/16 there could be issues. If the manufacturers stay +-1/32 we shouldn’t have an ish

Thank for the positive comments and feed back. One thing I know for sure, V-Dubber’s are like motorcyclist and demand quality.

Cool

Awesome work!

Hard to see from the pics, but, if the notches out of the back are shaped like an upside down U then it seems you could slightly bend one or more of the tines of the grate so the VW emblem would be held in tension by some the grate ends to eliminate potential rattle.

Just received my set in Aluminum, and they are quite wonderful.

They fit very well on the stove top and provide a very stable platform for our coffee maker.

Well made, well finished, just perfect for the job. Giving them *****
