I loved that song when I was a kid...the original one from 1959 not the later version...still got a soft-spot for Marty Robbins' songs Very Happy

Gotta add it to the set-list John Wink

I had a leaking boot... all but less than a cup of oil leaked out as I was driving on the interstate. Bob the mechanic here in Tucson got me fixed up with some new boots, rear axle seals, fixed a oil pressure switch, and adjusted my brakes.
Good to go.

At the Bug Barn. Bob and co. did some amazing work on my car, makes me realize what a huge difference it makes to have a master mechanic do the adjustments.

I heartily agree...especially when you get to my age. No difficulty getting under the car but having to be dragged out and helped up afterwards is a little humiliating. Wink

That's all good and well, but some of us would need the power tilt option to return us to the vertical position once we have exited from beneath the vehicle.

Love that this actually exists!

(I am a big fan the music of both Marty Robbins and Calexico, which leads me to ask: any chance, John, of a cover of "El Paso" - or, even better, "Big Iron" - by Calexico? Pretty pretty please???)

I hope you realise (another of your favourites Dave) Prefab Sprout did a version of "The Streets of Laredo". I think that would make a great cover for Calexico. Smile

Get yourself a very high lift jack and some really tall jack stands so that you can use one of these ...

... fitted with the proper set of wheels, naturally, as a creeper fit for gentlemen as "fit" as yourselves.

Do still bring a blanket with you under the car, though, so you'll be comfy and warm in the unfortunate event that your sacroiliac should act up while you are working.

Made it back safe to El Paso. I left a little late, and drove into the night. I had a few moments on the interstate where it was completely dark, and the stars were brightly shining, and I had that feeling I was alone in space... but there was quite a bit of traffic, and I realized that interstate traveling isn’t as much fun as the two lane black tops in a vintage vw at night.... still, it was quite an adventure.

Thanks for the cover song suggestions! My old band Giant Sand did a cover of El Paso, mashed up with Neil Young’s Out on the Weekend, pretty good combo.

I started hearing some rattle when not under load... think it might be time for a rebuild...
