|
I want to try a single Weber 40mm DCNF on a open plenum manifold [with heat] I have, what size vents should I use. The carb I have has 24mm vents in it now, I think I have a set of 30mm's some where for a DCNF. this is a stock 1600 with a cheap header [w/J tubes] with a single muffler and a 009 or a 019.
Thanks for any help.

find a zenith. it will fit the same manifold.
30mm vents are way huge for a 1600. _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

I would love to try a Zenith but I don't have one and I have the DCNF, besides rebuild kits for DCNF's are bad enough. I was thinking about a single IDF but I don't have a manifold, and my disability check only goes so far.

Use the smallest vents you have if you are using a plenum intake. _________________ "...swingaxle...transaxle...same diff." |

My own single Weber 40 DCNF is on an intake manifold that has two openings, not a plenum.
This is on my 1835cc DP engine, and has never been unbolted form that manifold since I bought the kit in 1976, works good; was purchased from CB Performance/Claude's Buggies. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. any idea of what jets you have in your carb? might give me a starting place.

My Weber 40DCNF has 135 main jets (0.135mm) and 50 idle jets (0.50mm) in it. Back in 1976 when I installed it it had 140 mains, and I know I experimented then with 40 and 60 idle jets, and I also seem to have a pair of 45 idle jets that I never bothered to try.
Except for changing that main jet 4 decades ago, I've never had the top off the carb (or removed the carb from the CB manifold); I did have to replace the accelerator pump on the side once due to leakage when it sat for a few years. So be prepared that you might need to get some different jets and check on smoothness and idle smoothness, and read the plugs to get an optimum mixture. Good luck !
I looked at the photos of the Weber manifolds in that link; mine has the two ports east-west (front-rear are for different Weber progressive carbs) and my manifold is dual port with one flexible tube/seal and does not have heat risers (but I'm also in Arizona desert). _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. just get the 2 port model for a duel port and a open spacer to give you a open plenum. that way you can test and see how much better it will run with the duel port.s |

I have a IR manifold that has a slotted base pad for multi carbs, it also has two middle holes to mount 3 bolt carbs on it like Weber DCN's [which I have a set of], I have to look at it but I think the heat risers have been cut off of it.
I am trying to put together a complete Deano package, I have the center pull part of the linkage with the purple paint still on it, I am looking for a set of valve covers, air cleaners and crank pulley to build a vintage look motor for my dune buggy.

Here are the 2 manifolds I have...
The IR manifold would need some kind of ported spacer so the butterflies would open. It also looks like somebody ground the corner off to clear a alternator.
The OP manifold needs to have the heat risers installed and the ones I have are a bit loose, I think I can swage the ends open a bit to tighten them up.

Since this basically a stock engine, I would run the IR manifold. Using the plenum manifold would probably cause tuning/performance issues from hades. As far as the spacer, just get a piece of PVC, ABS, plexiglass the needed thickness. Drill and port as needed, put a gasket on each side and give it a try. The one thing about a stock engine, is that the jetting is not that critical when doing some experimenting. _________________ 69 road Bug 2110

Well I made the adapter/spacer today only to find out the IR manifold corner slots don't fit but its nothing a little grinding wont fix.
I pulled down the carb only to find it needed shaft bearings so I have to wait until after the holidays to order a rebuild kit and a set of bearings.
Oh well, i am getting there.

Good choice. With that "isolated" manifold I think 28-30mm vents will work |
