the oil tower O-ring is special (thicker) and good time to replace
the oil tower can be a vacuum leak and cause idle issues. _________________

Unfortunatley both of my front turn signals housings are cracked, one was full of water. Someone had rigged up some jetta bulb holders/harnesses on them. I took those out and it looks like my original wires are still in good shape.
I cleaned off a bunch of stickers and removed the badly dented rear bumper. It was in a fender bender but thankfully the bumper too the vast majority of the impact.
I did take it on a 10 minute ride to get some gas and no lights came on or flickered and it never ran hot. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust."

It is a good idea to use "Dielectric Grease" on all terminals to protect them from corrosion. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Agreed, I drill smallish holes in all sorts of things to get the water out. |

It's not hard to inspect the brown wire from oil pressure switch. If its inadvertently connecting to ground (loose, off, cracked casing; exposed wire strands) that might explain the inconsistency.
Bumper metal isn't too thick. Not too hard to straighten out.
Nice looking ride.

Oh yeah, water will get in again, they have wide open cracks. I guess I could doctor them up with some silicone and drain holes but think I'll probably just replace them. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

Thanks Neil,
Ok, I'll check it out. The light hasn't flickered again thankfully.
As for the bumper, it had fairly sharp creases that would have been difficult to get straight and damage to the chrome. It has already been put at the road and picked up by a metal scrapper.
I kept the rubber strip and mounts and I know where a straight bumper is I can probably buy.
As a side note, when I was planning on buying the van I assumed I'd paint it another color, put on black bumpers, etc, etc. I have to say though, the doo doo brown metallic has grown on me some. _________________ "A rolling bus gathers no rust." |

Understood. Aussan Brown wouldn't have been my first choice but I'm used to it now and partial to it; I actually prefer it to my Slate Blue bus. The Assan and rust scheme fits in quite well with an evergreen forest surrounding.
Trouble shooting the oil pressure light system isn't too hard on the 1.9 Light flicker can be due to other factors like oil type (viscosity) but I'm sure you know that from your air cooled days.
Got Bentley?
I think Daves point on testing the oil pressure is a very good idea regardless of oil light intermittent flicker cause.

My skylight window is cracked so I did a quick repair to keep the water out for now.

What brand or type of adhesive did you use?
You will find the Bentley quite useful!

Heh. Ok. Thanks. Wondered if you might've used "Goop" and how well it worked on that type of plastic. _________________ 1981 Westy DIY 15º ABA

I enjoy when other people post updates so I often do even when it's minor stuff like this:
I pulled the dirty front carpet for cleaning.
Cleaning up under the carpet as well. Floors up front look solid from what I can tell a without removing this insulation.

I worked on the alternator bracket a little and the alternator is much more stable now.
The horn button material was loose so I pulled it off to repair.
The front laid down nicely but the edges gave me a little some trouble. I am doing the edge one section at a time.
One tab was broken so I plastic welded it.

Picked up some ebay decals, not an exact match for the originals but an improvement.

These came in the mail.
A PO had rigged the front turn signals with jetta holders.
So I put on new terminals and we're back in business.
