pics from the Stanford Digital Library. Unfortunately can't be linked or downloaded directly.
The online resolution of pics is breathtaking
second Pic says 'VW Achtsitzer mit Sonnendach mit Wohnwageneinrichtung'.
seems like little chromed letters stuck to the windshield. The wiper arms look chromed. What an exhibition vehicle. loving the the 50s style mattress and cooking gear.

NS-62-79 Volkswagen Transporter Kombi 1954 by Carcheologisch Onderzoeker, on Flickr

This Kombi is outfitted with advertisment for a dealership called Hoogenboom. They're still located in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Text on the rear side panel says "Centraal Magazijn" which is "Central Warehouse" in English.

NS-62-78 Volkswagen Transporter kombi 1954 “Voormolen Rotterdam” by Carcheologisch Onderzoeker, on Flickr

Notice the licences on both buses. 1 digit difference, this probably means that VW dealer Hoogenboom delivered both buses.

Strange - The mirror look painted in that photo.
I wonder if it's painted or if it's just the lighting

Looks like one of those Hella plastic mirrors that used to be in circulation years ago. They have a funky mounting bracket that attached directly to the mirror head and kind of "pinches" onto the mirror arm.

They were seen often some years ago before original style reproduction mirrors were on the market.

They are 49s aren’t they? Prototype raised headlight mounting for a start.

I'm definitely not in the know...The front bumper on the panel seems like something that was stuck on the lower front apron for photo purposes. Like only the ribbed part of a pressed bumper Shocked

No I think that's the chromed 'D' of the Wolfsburger Delikatessen' 49 prototype singwriting letter
