Wonderful photos, everyone! Nice to see what I missed!
I was at Laguna Seca, packing up...
In typical Monterey fashion, fog; didn't get to see even a partial eclipse. _________________ ~Kamz

I camped at the airport in Madras, OR. Somebody at Oregon Public Broadcasting used a picture of me to illustrate the smaller than expected crowds as of the Saturday before the eclipse, although it filled up quite a lot on Sunday and even Monday morning. Here's the article:
http://www.opb.org/news/series/solar-eclipse-2017/madras-vendors-eclipse-crowds/
Also, I reached out to the photographer (Rhianna Gelhart) for the high resolution version, and she sent me two pics:

We had a great time near Stanley, Idaho. Railroad Ridge at 10,500ft. I just happened to drive up on a few other Vanagon owners! NO REALLY! |
Great shots and video Jael!! We also went up and camped on Railroad Ridge and I think drove up on you guys as well. We were in the blue syncro. We ended up camping a little higher up on the ridge. What an amazing spot to watch the eclipse as well as high alpine camp. _________________ Bill

That's the shot I'd have gone for had we driven our Westy to SC for our viewing, and if I were a photographer and had filters...and if I ever washed our van. _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

Awesome thread! We camped the night before at Pawnee Buttes in NE Colorado. We knew something big was happening because I've never seen more than five people there on a weekend, and on Sunday night there had to be 30!
We got up early and shot straight north to Nebraska. We found a nice public road about 28 miles north of Scottsbluff in area of totality. Saw one other vanagon amoung the many people gathered in the middle of nowhere. It was an amazing view, clear skies. My second photo tries to capture the cool sunset quality on every horizon during the eclipse. Amazing trip!

I envisioned setting up a pic like that, but on a 90° day when the option for parking in the shade
presented itself, I sacrificed the money shot & chose the more comfortable practical option...
Maybe next time...see all y'all in 2024!

We finally returned home from our tour de eclipse, complete with a side portion of Idaho, trout fishing, king bolete mushrooms, hot springs and too much forest fire smoke. Here's a couple of photos from our camp at Green River, Wyoming.

was a great location to get to early, enjoy the beach, have rest rooms and wait for the sky to go dark..
the eclipse did not disappoint, such an awesome event. if you have a chance to see one make sure you do.. in TOTALITY it's TOTALITY AWESOME
