The project is definitely getting more attention now. The van is almost completely assembled, minus the interior bits and pieces. Engine is getting some attention again!

The awesomeness continues!

Do I spy some LED headlights too? Peterson brand (like Das Mule sells)? Very curious of how those perform.

Not to derail this awesome thread, but I just installed a set of Peterson's about an hour ago. Kinda anxious for it to get dark now.

For the LED Headlights, I ended up getting the Pilots from Mule Outfitters. Haven't been able to try them out yet, but from what I've seen, I was sold. Not cheap, but worth it! My inner lights are VisionX Cannons. Mule Outfitters made a custom bracket to mount them as inner lights on the SA grill.

The carbon fiber panels look awesome but I read many years ago that CF stuff shatters into very sharp pieces. Maybe not the best for vehicle interiors. Same goes for solid wood.

Race car tubs are diff as they are much thicker sections and extremely rigid

Cool AMR, was considering such myself. Have you had any further look into fitting it? Any bracket kits that could be used as a starting point then nodded perhaps?

I didn't get one yet. It seems like you could fit it where the a/c compressor is.

The bigger issue would be the limitations of the factory EFI. I don't think you can add boost through a AFM. You would want a MAP or MAF based system, from either an OEM swap (80's Volvo or SAAB Bosch LH 2.2 - as prev noted), or an aftermarket EFI.

This kit below (or a Megasquirt) would also be needed, along with the optional 2 Bar MAP sensor (for up to 15 psi)

You could try running a Split Second injector controller. I know a guy who ran one of these on a Mercedes twin turbo six cylinder with CIS-E injection.

Here I am standing at the fount of this thread, the OP water, and let me just say

1. You've managed to take away the next few precious hours of my time, I'm sure, you bastiche.

2. If you swap it out for a zetec or whatever, half way through, I'm going to find you and mail your cats to bluebus.

Otherwise, you have said many interesting things in that first post, and for someone like me who has many, many dreams embedded in his WBX engine, I'm looking forward to this and hope there's lots of interesting comments and asides.

So this would work with a Digifant?

From my understanding, it's largely stand-alone and controlled by the boost signal, so it doesn't interface with the factory injection system. CIS-E is a mostly mechanical batch-fired injection system, so if it works on that, it should work with Digifant. I believe the additional injector is just to ensure that the air fuel ratio doesn't run lean under boost...which will kill a gasser right quick.

All,

Sorry I haven’t updated on the progress in a very long time. The project has been slowly chipping away. The good news is that the first run should happen just before the new year. In the meantime, here are some pictures of the project:

I'm not sure how many know this, but the Corrado and Passat G60's are a supercharged engine that use a MAP sensor and their ECU's are almost identical to the "D" version ECU (also 28 pin). I have disassembled the code in both versions and the "D" version Digifant ECU's used in the 2.1's uses a subset of the code that is in the G60 digifant ECU's. The G60 Digifant ECU also uses a knock sensor with cylinder selective control for advance and knock, so timing can be different for each cylinder. It controls the idle via the Idle solenoid valve which is closed loop, by adjusting fuel and timing. Also, for those that are skeptical about the capabilities of the G60 Digifant ECU (once you have figured it out), I know of a person in Germany that is running out of fuel running E85, 1000 cc injectors and a big Turbo. His Corrado out performs Porsches on the autobahn.

Also, this fellow has an open sourced project that adds a boost controller that is gear selective, adds 6 EGT inputs, 2 map sensors, wideband input, and on and on. you can read about it here:

I've disassembled the Digijet EPROM.. but I can't find any reverse engineering tools that assist with the Intel MCS-48 MCU (8049). Have you found something that works well for Digifant, or are you reversing all of this by hand?
