|
|
So my timing chain and associated gears and seals were all replaced in my 03 EVC in 2015, at 130k miles - which is now 30k miles ago. (Before I bought it, thankfully.)
Along with transmission replacement, this is a job I never hope to have to do. I assume frequent synthetic oil changes are a must, but any other advice on keeping those internals running for a long time? |

the point of failure that caused so much todo RE this was the intermediary sprocket on some engines. my understanding is that by mid '02 the sprockets were no longer defective. i've had four t4 vans 02 & 03 and none of the sprockets have been bad...
that leaves the plastic tensioners. what happens is grooves wear into them by chain friction or they grow brittle and break. this causes timing issues because of the extra slack in the chain. it takes a long time for significant wear if there is no sludge buildup in the engine and the engine is never run hot.
as you've also noted... 130,000+ |

It should probably last until your transmission is ready for a rebuild/replacement. Just keep doing routine maintenance and replace it in ~70K miles when your transmission takes a dump. _________________

Why not just make a custom set of wires with a Y splice in them. Then you could just run one distributor. |
I don't think electrickery works that way |
