Meanwhile on Christmas Eve, while waiting on Santa, the Moroccan turned her best side to me.

I’ve never seen that V channel before.

There’s one on each side

I’m guessing it’s for stiffness of the luggage tray. I’ll have crawl underneath the Diamond and see.

Pretty clean up under there
And here is the next project

Somebody had the brilliant idea of accessing the fan nut, so they cut this jagged lazy “V” in firewall. I never ceased to be amazed at the cleverness that some people display Wink

I have about 4 or 5 different "access ports" cut into different parts of my parcel tray as well. It seems the PO never wanted to actually get under the car to work on anything and elected to cut holes instead. Rolling Eyes

So I'll be making these same repairs next summer.

My Dad’s bug had the entire floor of the parcel tray cut out for “access to adjust the clutch and change the starter.” It was replaced with a flimsy piece of steel.

Day 8...Christmas day...
Time to tackle the big lazy "V"
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It's ugly, with curled edges, but it's all there.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

First order of business is pull it through in order to straighten the edges
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Time to knock out some of the dents and start on the pressing on the right. The "V" is just a tad too long because it's been flattened out.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The metal is very flimsy with this cut but I was able to secure the first two clamps and pick up the press shape. More tomorrow

Stitching the war wounds back together! Were you able to reach down with your arm at the rear window bottom edge to carefully hammer the rib shapes back while holding the dolly against the metal with your other hand?

Yes, that is exactly what I did. At one point I was sitting on the parcel shelf reaching over to hold my copper backer while stitching.

Day 10: Lazy V, the light at the end of the tunnel
I ground down the spattered seagull poop I call welding and filled some more areas I missed and ground those down as well. Then I covered the entire area far side

and near with an epoxy resin.

This has to cure at least 12 hours before sanding smooth.
I also removed the rear quarter glass and the passenger door components as well as chrome trim

Day 11: back to the front. Today I decided to start really working the front by replacing the lower front quarter panels
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Used a donor front clip and removed the right quarter panel off of it
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

After the final cut on my quarter panel I did a rough patch from the donor. It needed several trims until it fit in place

The spare tire well in place

Test fit the front apron and then removed it. Ready to start welding tomorrow

Day 12: passenger's front quarter panel

It was a very good day.

It's welded in, what a chore. But once I removed all the paint, the welding went a lot smoother.
Now for the driver's side

Glad to see someone replacing the spare tire well. I’ve got that job on my list to do as well.

Day 15: stick a fork in me!
Today was my last day of leave, so, what better way than to grind and weld my life away!

Front apron is welded in on the driver's side and tacked and clecoed in on the passenger side. I ran out of wire. Crying or Very sad

The whole thing is hit with self etching primer, as I don't know when I'll be able to get back on it. Plus, it's 35 degrees outside and 55 in the garage. It's gonna take a while to dry
