Is my fuel pump toast?

Drove her a couple hundred miles, then noticed the oil pressure light would flicker when on any sort of incline, downhill or uphill. And, if I didn't give it some gas, she would stall.

Now after a couple days of this, after I parked her, I could here a ticking sound coming from underneath the rear drivers side panel, where the fuel pump is. Even after hours of her turned off and parked, this sound persisted. Went to start her this morning, battery is completely dead. And when I jump her and start her up, she shuts off if I'm not constantly giving it gas.

So, I'm assuming the fuel pump died, and for some reason wouldn't turn off, draining my battery dry. Am I accurate on this?

I am running the stock FI 1970cc engine.

sounds to me you are (were) low on oil, maybe gas tooso the pump was sucking air. True FI tanks have baffles in them to stop that sort of thing.

Maybe your AFM door is stuck open?

Sorry,
From what you described.... the ticking sound always being on and the battery going dead, I'd guess your fuel isn't shutting off like it should. I'm guessing that a stuck AFM (Airflow Meter) door might cause that. I could be wrong and the ignition switch might prevent the pump from running even with the door open.

The over full oil may be from gas entering the crank case,from the pump running,the thinned out oil may also cause the pressure to drop,causing the light to come on.
Change the oil before running it again.

I think you'd need to have a leaky injector along with a fuel pump that doesn't turn off in order to dilute the crankcase oil.

Pull the dip stick and smell it for fuel

regardless - welcome, and 9 ft lbs max on the oil strainer nut if you remove it or engine damage will occur.

you have some GREAT VW resources in the SLC area that you should get familiar with.

I don't know any of them personally or by reputation so you'll have to do a little feeling them out..
tell them your story, and don't cheap out on their advice or expertise..

Thank you all for your detailed replies- I truly appreciate it! Since I have no idea what the hell I'm doing, I think it's wise to let a local expert have a peek at what's going on.

@danfromsyr- Thursday I'll be towing her to a shop in Orem. UT (Vintage German Motors) that all the local guys seem to rave about. I'll be sure to update the post when I find out the diagnosis.

tow rear wheels first or disconnect the axles. or flat bed. More than one person here has had an engine destroyed when the trans slipped into 1st at 55 mph.

Yep, a leaky injector would cause a lot of problems. Running problems as well as flooding problems.

Got to wonder if the running pump and the open injector are related to the same electric problem/s,same power going to both the pump and injectors
