Just got a text from my kids who spotted a Blue (resprayed metal glitter) Bay at our local Coop. Had to run down there myself and join my kids for a sandwich. They had been having lunch, and I pegged the guys at the table next to the kids as "them" and as I sat down I said, you the guys with the subagears Bay out there? Sure enough. Maiden voyage, the mechanic, a traveler from Colorado, and the owner from middle Iowa. Nice folks indeed! It got me thinking about my priorities again. I ordered a few more parts, easy stuff, but the list just grew some more. I'm back on the hunt for the next Subaru to replace the harness and engine that my kids needed! I don't know what I will end up with, but I can imagine that at least one more of the Vanagons hanging around my fort will go conversion at some point, and I hope to get the Splittie, the Notch, or the Ghia road worthy for an event this year. Right now, of those, only the Ghia runs.
So:
10: Sliding door rehab
11: Outer CV R&R
12: 90wt transaxle oil drain/replace
13: Coolant flush
14: all 4 corners brake inspection (not just a quick peek this time)
15: more cowbell
edit:
16: finally install new windshield squirters
17: stuff scrubbies in rodent ingress paths (done 1-12-1 _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch

A few more:
Finally put in a damn heater blower. Been driving for 2 NE Ohio winters now with no heat.
Fix the washer fluid system. Same thing. 2 winters with no way to clean my windshield. It gets dangerous to the point of scary sometimes.
SubaruGears transmission. I really hope I can pull together the funds for this one. _________________

#2 is build a cabinet to house my Engel fridge in a tray w/ locking slides.

I ordered my parts from GoWesty yesterday. So whenever they get here, I'll be taking the dash out and doing everything that needs done under there over a weekend. _________________

I think I'll install the Rocky Mountain Westy Van Cafe (!) metal pressure coolant tank in keeping with my 'cheap insurance' policy. I will wonder about some kind of replacement for the washer fluid tank, and perhaps get Winston's time-losing LED clock re-capcitored in the hope of fixing it.
I will think about LED arrays for brighter back-up lights, contemplate yet again trying to rig Winston's fridge NOT to run on DC if I forget. I took all that stuff out, and NEVER run the Dometic on DC because I am afraid I'll forget.
I should replace his brake fluid and also replace his gearbox oil.
I feel tired already.

Install everything thats been sitting in the den
1. vanagonlife center console, light bar/mount
2. install jack bombay struts and yakima arg
3. (in progress now) grind down the seat rails on the eurovan seats I got and finally install the sewfine seat covers. The sewfine covers look so quality and cant wait to get pics
4. install the SA grill/lights and vanistan fresh air control
5. install the vanagonlife window insert (I mean have a glass shop do it)
I want to make a trip up to Maine late spring/early summer and do another Key west trip stopping by Ocala and visit family in Tampa. |

The ALH swap is almost done, and then it'll be a matter of breaking it in the next few months.
-Roof top tent is now in the shop and sitting in storage until the engine is done.
Lots of camping planned for this year! Any free weekend we can find will be filled with camping trips.
-First longer trip will be down to Portland in late March.
-In May we're doing a Houseboating trip up in the Okanagan, more hills to climb. I will want to conquor the hill that the original engine died on near Keremeos. RIP 1.6 TDI.
-In August we're taking on a much bigger adventure to Yellowstone! Going to take smaller highways through Washington state and take it slow. _________________ '88 Sunroof Syncro 2.1L |

That's how I felt since I sold my last splitty...
but as I'm trying to age gracefully, and not fully give up the dream, hence my purchase of the "modern convenience laden" vanagon, ha ha ha...
current plan is to run an 8g auxiliary ground from the battery to the starter and then all the major engine grounds, which hopefully will have it starting and running reliably enough to start driving it without fear...then think about road trips farther than the gas station once again... _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

Wow !!! -- Team Spatula is on here. I lost track of you ages ago .... remember that Bay crew cab. Somewhere back there in the Carolinas is my old '69 crew cab. I think about it once in a while and hope it's ok and not molested or destroyed. Anyway, TS, thanks for the momentary blast from the past.
My plans -- I have a small fleet with heaps of accessories and repairs to be done but it's all fun, money pitting and I try to keep one running at all time for those adventure moments. Nothing major on the repair side -- just trying to keep the heaps together with baling wire. |

1. Procrastinate on all the same projects I've planned for the last 8 years and keep fixing things when they break instead of preventative maintenance.
2. Tell myself throughout the year "I'd like to do ______ to/with my bus."
3. Drive it like I stole it and camp like a king!
4. Renew my AAA

Complete installing some of the stuff I have in the garage:
1 - insulation and soundproofing
2 - new skylight
3 - new jack bombay struts
4 - cupholders and such for kids in the back
If I get to finish all that (I'm a super-duper procrastinator) then
5 - replace dashboard foil with new GW circuit replacement
6 - install vanagonlife center console
7 - replace/upgrade speakers and stereo _________________ 87 Syncro Westy EJ25 ("Tardis")

This is a great thread
1. New auto transmission with taller 3/4 and peloquin
2. Install Vanagonlife vents with CB
3. Finish solar install
4. Install Small Car front disc brakes, will have Small Car brakes all around
5. Swap out Gary Leerack for RMW swing away. I need a place for spare
6. Drive, find someplace to park, BBQ (Received a Big Green Egg Mini Max for Christmas). Yes, I am an EggHead!
I did pick up a 2001 Subaru Forester and will be pulling the engine and getting that ready for 2019.
