So when I hit unlock on my remote or lift up the driver or passenger doors, my locks all unlock, then immediately go back down into lock mode. When I manually lift the drivers side lock and open the door, it tries to 'relock' nonstop until the door is closed (because of course, it stays up until you close the door). The passenger door doesn't do this. Though if I unlock passenger side lock with the door closed, it'll lift all the locks and then all doors - including passenger do the same thing - immediately relock. Any advice on first place to look? I imagine driver's door wiring harness but any advice appreciated. I'm fairly knowledgeable about the lock mechanisms because I dissected and rebuilt the ones in my Vanagon which are nearly identical.

You have either lost the ground on the door switch or your transmission is failing.

Ok, seriously, the door lock ground is a fairly common item on T4s, I remember s few threads on this

One of our vans has almost this exact same set of symptoms. I've been assuming it's a mechanical issue on the driver side (partly because the outer handle isn't flush and that side doesn't unlock manually using the key) but haven't had time to look into it yet.

In the meantime, I've gotten quite skilled at entrance timing with the odd and ridiculous "unlock, open before it re-locks, and enter from the passenger side" routine currently required. Laughing

If anyone has more info on the ground-related possibility, I'd appreciate seeing that too. (I did a quick search, but didn't find a thread focused on this.)

Yeah, it was the driver door light switch on mine - if your interior lights arent coming on normally, that confirms the problem.

This ground for the door locks is only on the driver side. The passenger side just has the ground for the dome light. My locks are occasionally a little wonky for obscure reasons other than the door ground. Dunno why
