Was yours the only one at the last hurrah? Stoic 66 for sure. Smile

I dig your Shasta. I stumbled on a little fiberglass egg that was produced for a short time by a VW dealer to be pulled by beetles. The ongoing build thread is in my signature if you're at all interested in that.

I echo all the compliments spread throughout your thread on this really nice build of your 66. Cool

Now those are the pictures I was expecting to see! Thank you for sharing. I love that the yellow vert has the top down in weather that warrants a Santa hat right behind it. Merry Christmas Smile

That was the biggest Air cooled event in Connecticut in December!

The yellow vert is the club president and later on a bunch of people got together for the parade in the center of town. There he was top down for that.

Merry Christmas to you also!

On another note here are some shots from today's road testing.

I luckily got the chance to take it to work two more times this week but I think my 2017 season is over as the snow is coming down now. Last week I was at the beach! Now it's packed away for winter.

A little winter project that I'm working on. I've decided to switch the wheel from the spare with the rear wheel which is bent.

I'm also switching the Wheel from Herbie's spare since the other wheel in the back was bent but not as bad. Herbies spare was actually an original wheel that went on the 66 complete with a Sears tire and I still have receipts for the Sears tires.

Here's hoping for straighter wheels! The back tires are flipped and mounted.

I even worked on that yard Machine in the background as well. I replaced the valve stem and put some sealant on the rim for the back tire that would always go flat.

This week I did a little A-Pillar repair, Eventually I'll need to get one of the A-pillar replacement parts but the door will need to come off to do it right. That isn't gonna happen without a fight;)

DAY 95 Mile 5150 (I kid you not)

On my way to meet my wife I ran out of gas. I suspected it may happen since I readjusted the gas gage recently and I haven't been that low yet. We were hummin along at about 40 when it bucked a couple times and stalled. I yanked it out of gear and coasted down a side road to a parking lot. Luckily no traffic since I had to make a left turn. My son was with me and he started to panic, "what are we gonna do!". Call Mom. She was only a mile away and I had a gas can. Not only did she bail us out but she was at Dunken when I called so a nice hot cup of coffee came as well! I looked at the odometer and it was at 5150, crazy!

It turns out the aftermarket tank is smaller than the original. I only get about seven gallons into it. Unless I keep stopping short. So half tank on the gage is full tank. It says in one of the manuals to adjust it for empty or two gallons on r (that's what I did yesterday) not for full tank.

I noticed one of my friends took advantage of the mild temps and the fact that the rain washed away the salt so I got the idea to go try the new/ old wheels out. It seems the wheel swapping did the trick for the shake up and down at 25. It was well worth the work.

One-wheel stripped of the white, funky green, then black paint. I also broke the bead seal so I can tuck the paper in the wheel and not paint the tire while painting the wheel. I'm doing one wheel at a time even though it's kind of time consuming so I can still drive the car if I get a chance. But that isn't going to be today all the rain didn't wash away all the salt we've got here.

Here is the finished product not absolutely perfect but I was able to pull off the two tone. This is the wheel that was painted with a brush white. It was a funky sparkle green under that then black.

The original factory 2-tone scheme will look much better on your '66 than the previous. Cool

Are you using the same electric sprayer on the wheels with which you painted the body, or just using spray cans? How did you separate/mask off the center hub section from the outer rim during the respray?

Yup silver just doesn't do it anymore 😂 no electric sprayer this time but it is still IH White tractor paint. I thought I had a great idea for separating the center of the wheel with thin cardboard basically rolled into a big tube but it was in the way so I initially sprayed it on to thick. Then I sanded out the runs then just carefully taped it off the second time. It took several small pieces to get it right.

Next one, try sticking notecards in the little gap between the two colors, should be easier.

I finally got the chance to see what the wheels look like in the daylight. I just mounted the final wheel today. Yeah I painted the wheel weights and all on the front. I'm leaving them on for now. Since I dismounted and remounted the tires myself I'm also balancing them myself with Dyna beads. I miscalculated the amount needed so didn't have any for the front wheels.

Came out really nice, Brent! Nice job!

When I two-tone wheels I always paint the center color first, and then meticulously insert small pieces of masking tape as far down into the gap as I can get them, and then press them down with the tip of a thin flat screwdriver. The build up a couple more passes with masking tape to cover a bit more of the painted center, and eventually cover the entire center with a masking-taped-down piece of newspaper. Once everything's secure, that's when I finally move onto painting the outer part of the rim whatever the other two-tone color is planned. Sometimes retrieving/pulling out all of those little inserted pieces of masking tape at the end can get a little bit difficult--especially if you glob on too much paint when painting the outers--the paint runs down and accumulates in that gap, which is not desirable!

One of the more fun ones was two toning a set of wheels for my mango green '60 Bug: mango green outers and purple centers--it actually looked pretty good. Can't find any pictures right this minute, though.

EDIT: Just had to use the right keywords in my samba search--here's one that shows one of the funky mango green & purple two-toned wheels:
