Linkage has been tough to figure out for my setup, 2 28PCI carbs on homemade manifolds. I ordered the basic SCAT linkage as a start.
It's OK , but the carb links mount at the wrong angle. The slot is at 45 degrees, I need it parallel with the centerline.

Welded up the old slots and turned the link around so I could use my Chinese mill (file) to elongate and resize the link pin hole so it becomes the carb shaft slot. TaDaaa! Drill new pin holes in the weld area, bend a couple 45's for clearance, shorten the the link rods and associated heim joint screws(only about 3/8 inch), and there you have it...except the fat-head black cap screw still bumps the choke linkage, so off to the good hardware store for button-style cap screws, the silver ones.

So here's the result. Wasn't too hard, and I hope this helps someone else with a similar problem.

How did you fabricate your tapered intake tubes?

I hope it will be fine! Wink

I discussed this with a couple of old hands that contribute to the Samba. Mark Harney is a local VW carb Guru (Mark), and Jim Shields out of Round Rock, TX (jshields). Both agree that if the carbs are properly synchronized, a balance tube is not needed. Also, I'll be using a centrifugal advance distributor from a 54-59 type 2, so I don't need a vacuum source.

Plus, Mark said he'd help me synch the carbs. Very Happy

They may look tapered, but they're not. A local machinist freiend made them up for me. I cut up a couple of old stock manifolds to get the end plates, and the tubing is angle cut for the offset. Also we added about 3/8" of straight cut tubing to the top to get clearance for the carb bolts on the inside angle. You can see that section here:

I wanted them smooth inside for flow efficiency, and as large internally as practical, so I worked on them with carbide high-speed bits. I added Epoxy putty from POR to help smooth the cosmetics as well as a couple of inside angles.

See, now I knew you had more photos and you were just being modest in your first post. Smile

What size tubing did you use?

Update, FWIW - I took these carbs off a couple of years ago and discovered that all of the putty on the interior of the manifolds was gone - inhaled by the engine, for sure. So skip that step if you're thinking of a manifold build!

tin, How did the engine run with the dual carbs? Did you make any other performance enhancements to it?

Ran liked a raped ape - considering it started as a 36. Don't think you could tell it didn't have a 1500/1600. DPR 69mm stroked and balanced crank and assembly, slightly lightened flywheel, heads ported as much as I could stand, reground cam, straight-cut gears, heads flycut .100, compression around 8.5.
Ran great, but got even better when I switched to 12v. via a porsche generator.
Rejetted the Harney-built carbs just a touch, I forget the sizes.
When I upvolted, I also added an electric fuel pump, which was wonderful. Went thru 2 or 3 original pumps and never could get enough flow, and they leaked (oil) like hell.
