Most 1300 single port 70 beetles had non vented decklids, they were like that here in Australia too, 70 1500SP and 71 1300DP had the 2 vent lid though.

Interesting Joel - here in Aus I've only noticed the 1970 1300s WITH slotted lids (not a lot of them around though - the 1970 1500s like mine seemed to be more popular). 1300s had VOLKSWAGEN on the engine lid, 1500s had VW1500 on the engine lid and the semi-autos had AUTOMATIC on the engine lid.
I once got a complete gearbox out of a 70 1300 at a wreckers and it had the two-slot lid, definitely original from the colour and fading on it.
Never seen a 70 bug in that colour, but we all know there were odd variations around the world to suit local markets. - Like the USA only ever getting the largest engine available in any one year, and staying with drum brakes, whilst other markets had OEM disc brakes on 1500s from 68 onwards, and engine choices in European countries including the 1200 and 1300 engines well into the 70s (the LAST bugs made in Germany in 86 were all 1200s). So colour variations don't surprise me a bit. _________________ Rob

at last we have been able to identify Marco's L20E Signal Orange 1970 as part of what I believe to be the very first factory sales campaign Beetle series http://www.sebeetles.com/1970-may-beetle/ |

at long last we have been able to publish a significant new amount of information on SEBeetles.com today about the 1970 Spring Editions.
This is the succesful outcome of a journey that started in this discussion thread and proves the value of this site as a meeting place to ask questions and share info.
The car discussed in this thread is now an internet star here:http://www.sebeetles.com/1970-maggiolino-arancione/
and the whole story and several other now very rare Editions discovered during our research are all detailed here http://www.sebeetles.com/1970-spring-editions/ |
