Worked on the exhaust..i used a universal slip on sportbike muffler onto a Empi dual bazooka exhaust..i cut the bazooka off and added a 2" flared adapter. The exhaust slipped onto it perfectly..i just have to finish welding the adapter to the header part. I ran out of gas for the welder

Taking my engine tin down to the painter I can't wait. It's been a long road. Here is a sneak peak of the color.

OK found a way to help make everything feel nice and tight. I installed a bronze bushing in the end of the steering column. It is a Stainless steel tube that I polished for the column. I also polished the stock turn signal switch. Here is the column

Awesome build. Where did you find that lower bushing? Are you using any shaft collars or anything to keep it in place? Also, is the column a stock VW column that you polished or is that a piece of tubing? I couldn't tell from the write up exactly what you meant. Keep up the good work and thanks in advance!

I bought a section of stainless tubing and polished it. I used bronze bushings that would fit the pipe and shaft, I had to press the bronze bushing into the end of the pipe. I will be using a standard vw original style bearing and spring for the top.
It has been so long I am not sure what the part numbers or sizes they are.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure what option would be best so that is why I was asking.

Tonight I tried using a spare column top bearing at the base of my early 1960's steering column and it seems to be a good option for a lower bearing. I just want to find a shaft collar to fit for added insurance that it stays in place.

I like the 914 seats better. ..it's your car and a very nice one at that. ..your doing such a great job and hope my project comes out looking half as good as yours will be when finished. ..sometimes I wish my car was made of fiberglass, much easier to build panels from scratch. ..so... Think ...about those slingshot seats, although they look cool, everything about your buggy is curvy. ..now if you go and add them pointy abstract looking seats in your ride, it's gonna look like the elephant in a room, like a square peg in a round hole, like a bull in a China shop...you get my drift (I ran out of similarities, lol Laughing )...please choose the 914 seats Pray

Is that oil filter bracket meant to mount on the outside of the head instead of the inside like you have it now? Something looks weird there...

How does it sound with the motorcycle slip on. For what size bike and name brand did you use. I like that idea. Are they quieter than the bazooka's ? Do the have a different sound. I might have to try this
