On that note, I had a mechanic take a look at my ball joints last year, and he said "Pull the car around to the shop door and beep, and we'll let you in". Then he paused and asked "Your horn works, right?", and I answered "Yes, but only a man who knew VW's would ask that question!"

I also have a Flat-4 EMPI GT reproduction. This was the only picture I could find in my gallery that shows my steering wheel. Sorry, not the best photo for a steering wheel thread.

John, judging by the shift lever opening, we must have the exact same carpets! Was that carpet in the car when she became yours?

I love what you did with the dash on your '67. Much better than the original fake woodgrain! _________________ 1966 Karmann-Ghia convertible |

Many thanks sacto, there are some that do look good with the faux wood...rcooled's 67 is one of them.
But then again I do like a stock Ghia...a work of art! _________________ 67 Ghia Cabriolet |

|
|
I have a Grant classic #313 wood wheel like Rigmover is showing here (mine is black vs. chrome) but can't stand the simple black horn button. It's 2.75" in diameter. Anyone know of a good quality Wolfsburg button that will fit in this wheel?
thanks for the help _________________ _________________________

Hello,
What would the dimensions for a stock steering wheel be for my 1970 Karmann Ghia convertible? Diameter? Dish depth?
I would like a wood wheel, but would like to match the stock dimensions.
Thank you. |

I didn't know such a thread existed, thanks for the bump!
Has anyone ever fitted a more modern steering wheel? _________________ 77 westy 2.0 FI

I got the following information with pictures on Facebook from Rod Watson.
Stock steering wheel dimensions.
Diameter on center about 390mm or about 15 3/8 inches.
Inside diameter 385mm or 15 1/4 inches
Outside diameter 400mm or 15 3/4 inches.
Dish depth about 120mm or about 4 3/4 inches.
Total steering wheel depth about 140mm or about 5 1/2 inches.
