Im looking for someone who can design and cut a custom beetle hood ornament. All I want is a basic VW circle design except instead of VW inside the circle I would like 2 or 3 Ms (preferably 3 if theyll fit.)
I want to replace a VW Type I ornament with it so Ill need pegs or screw holes properly placed on the back side as well.
Anyone wanna take on the project❓❓ _________________ -Constant over thinker

How much are you willing to pay for this commissioned piece? _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

Im not entirely sure what to expect. What would you consider fair? Id obviously like to see a rendering before committing to anything. And Id want it comparable diameter and thickness to an OEM or NOS piece. _________________ -Constant over thinker

What do you want it made out of? Plastic? someone could 3D print a part. Metal? What kind? Do you want it machined, laser/water jet cut, or cast? Do you want it chrome plated after the fact? _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I want it to as closely emulate an original hood emblem as possible. The exceptions, of course, being the lettering and possibly finished in a satin black, if finished at all. Im not decided on what color to go with the trim yet. Or the entire car for that matter.

... that's easy... just remove, carefully cut the V off of a VW emblem and you'll be left with a W. Now turn the emblem. So, it looks like an M _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

Just guesstimating, but an hour to do a rendering would be about $50-$100 commercially. Then a 3D scan of a stock emblem for sizing ($100), perhaps another 2 hours to place the Ms ($100), then production (varies, but let's say another $100 printed in plastic). So you are looking at $400-500 for the whole job, if done commercially.
Now if someone does this for a living but can so it as a "G-job" after hours, this might be cut in half.
Is it worth that to you? |

3D print one out of plastic. Then prime with plastic primer and paint it. |

Considering the amount of custom fabrication some people do to get their cars back together, that's almost nothing. _________________ If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? Yeah, have it 3d printed. I do a bit of 3d designing and print them at the local library. It's pretty fun actually...
PM me if you're interested and I'll see what I can do. _________________ '67 Beetle L41

If you do create a plastic version, you could find a local (likely family owned) jewelry store that might create a cast metal version for you. They could probably cast one for you in brass or bronze, which you could then have chromed or painted.
There would be a cost, youd have to ask. _________________ Plate of shrimp |

I also can design and 3D print if you're interested, I have access to a high end printer and really good software through my school. I think I know what you're wanting. Just shoot me a PM if you're interested _________________ Dennis - 1973 Super Beetle ('16-'21)

Not to rain on the parade of fellow Sambanistas, but when I wanted a custom hood emblem,
Curvy Metals (920-917-3990), [email protected], came through for me.
I emailed them my idea and a picture, they sent a rendering. A couple emails back & forth to iron out specifics, and maybe 3 days later, I got exactly what I wanted. Very reasonable price too.
Yes, it pays homage to The Samba, (where i found the car) but also my initials. _________________ Everything known to man has been written.
