there's tons of threads on h.p. limits of vw trans, but what about rpm limits? if you had a motor that was capable of 15k rpm could vw trans handle it?
I'm not talking about launching at high rpm |

As far as the bearings/shafts spinning, I'm not sure. I spoke with some guys at Tremec this afternoon that said they started having issues with a standard one piece brass synchronizer being able to "catch" a gear much over 8k. They did have a three piece design that was good to 9k. |

The RPM limit of the later transaxles with large pinion bearing is around 8,500 (SUSTAINED RPM). At 9,000 sustained RPM, the mainshaft needle bearing will weld itself, ruining both bearing and mainshaft.
The earlier transaxle (which has a needle bearing with larger diameter individual needles .. 113 part #) can withstand a higher RPM. _________________ aka Pablo, Geary
