I didn't see it posted anywhere in this thread, but what about the '60 only gas tank? They have notches where the mounting tabs hold it down, I've literally only seen these in '60 bugs. This picture is borrowed from the gallery...

Always wondered why this extra gas take had notches and my ovals tanks didn't.Must of came from a rusted out 60 semiphore bug i had when i was in my teens.

If it’s a 1960, L471 stone beige is the correct color for all of your interior parts. |

Hello, I came across this 1961. Would this color be classified as Pastel Blue or Gulf Blue? It looks lighter than Gulf Blue to me but I have only seen one Gulf car and it was many years ago. |

Thank you Everett, I thought so as well, but the owner insisted it was not Gulf, I don't really care either way, as I like both colors very much. I was just curious. If it were Pastel I was going to add all the Hydrate stuff as I have wanted a car with it since learning of it. |

Night Blue will be hard.
I also have a Pastel Blue bug, but the correct mixing formula for the night blue was not available, although I’ve contacted Glasurit as well.
So I’ve just looked at some found pics, and picked accordingly a harmonizing color blue for the OG formula turquise white. _________________ 72 Kombi Camper

PPG code 21863 - brown
This brown automotive paint color is most commonly known as Deep Brown. The color formulation has been used only in 1957, primarily by Volkswagen.
21863 is a paint code for PPG (Pittsburgh Plate Glass) who has been providing automotive paints since 1924 (originally Ditzler Color Company subsidiary acquired in 1928). PPG/Ditzler codes in the 10000 to 95000 range were used on new paint formulations from the late 1930's to 1968. PPG/Ditzler codes in the 20000 to 29999 range are primarily shades of brown, beige, and cream. These PPG codes serve as a great way to track the usage of paint between and within vehicle manufacturers.

1961 Convertible Beetle
Purchased in Oct 2017 for $5000
I am the 5th owner from researching title transfers. Most were in the last few years as it bounced between people taking it on as a restoration project.
Vin: 3412102
Built: Oct 1960
Color: L 390 Gulf Blue (Golfblau)
I found this car here on The Samba when looking for a VW Beetle project. I was not specifically looking for a convertible, but it was a solid runner that was not a complete rust bucket (not always easy to find in an Ohio project car). I was looking for something older than a 68 that ran well and mostly needed cosmetic work.
The gentleman I bought it from went through the wiring enough so I had signals and lights for the drive back home (which ended up being a drive to rent a trailer from U-Haul). While in his possession, he repaired rust issues on the doors and panels then primed the areas to stop oxidation. Chatting with him when i went to pick it up, he said him and his daughter were working on it together for her first car when she turns 16. She changed her mind and now wanted a bus. he had found one and needed the money from this car to pay for the top of the new bus project.
At some point it it's life, this bug was wrecked on the front passenger side and the shell was repaired by a PO with roughly 2 inches of bondo, filling the gap at the replacement front fender. I had the bondo stripped out and repaired correctly at a body shop and had the brackets in the area replaced as well, since they looked to have been hammered back into place after the accident.
The interior was completely stripped from the car by a previous owner. When I bought it, it had seat springs, a shifter, pedals, and a steering wheel. Anything of value or rarity had been removed and I assume sold by a previous owner or stolen from sitting out somewhere. The wood bows were in place and most of them still usable in my current rebuild. A previous owner also painted the interior in some kind of thick white paint that appeared to be put on with a paint brush or a roller. I have scraped off nearly an inch of it in some places on and around the dash of the car. In that process I found the car had been painted roughly six times over the years. It had been bright blue, red, white, green, pale blue, and the original Gulf Blue. The channels were solid, but the rear of the pans were completely eaten through with rust, only covered by the factory tar board and a PO's 80's Ohio license plate. _________________ 1961 - Gulf Blue - Convertible Beetle |

As far as the fender nuts, I have two ‘60 in my possession and both cars have different fender nuts on the front from side to side. The rear match on both sides but the fronts are different. Thought it was odd. Neither vehicle had been hit and they were both original bodies. Can anyone explain this or have the same discovery?
Thanks. |

Does anyone know how to tell if these are the correct wheels for a base car?
(I got my birth certificate back and my car had zero options.)
The car is getting ready to come off the cart, and go back on the chassis, and I'm not sure if it is suppose to have the smoothies or these ones with the holes?
