Agree - go with the yellow film. If you are in Europe, I understand since France requires yellow lamps, there are a lot of choices - yellow films and even a paint on yellow product in France. The linked product is nice in that it may also provide some stone protection as it looks like a thick plastic with that in mind. Where I live, all our vehicles have protected lamps.

Here is a link to a well reasoned history and explanation of Yellow Vehicle lighting including details on how to convert a white lense to Yellow.

The yellow film looks great but listed at 6.38" diameter, i am measuring the high beams closer to 5.25"

Great article on the yellow lighting. Im a lighting fanatic and learned from it. On the size being too large for your lights. Buy it and find someting you can trace around for the correct size. I have used cups, coffee mugs, coins, etc. Then use a razor to trim off the excess. Apply as normal.

Yellow headlamps haven't been mandatory in France for almost a quarter of a century now. Driving in France at night now is much like driving in any other continental EU country.

I used to enjoy painting up my parent's T2 headlamps when we were heading for France on holiday, it felt like we were going somewhere very strange and exotic. Vive la différence!!

The above photo was taken in Brittany in 1986.

Well that about fits the last time I drove a French vehicle on US soil - 1986 or 87 ish and it was a Renault Alpine Turbo. Magnificent.

Thats a cool memory to share about painting the headlamps for a big trip. Cool!

I used stained glass paint. Works great and easy to touch up if needed.

I used "Lamin-X" Protective film for mine. I too always liked the Euro look of the yellow high beam in vehicles such as the older Mercedes (and the old French).

On the stock Vanagon beams with flat lenses the Lamin-X was an easy install. I imagine with patience and a heat source you could form the film around a more rounded lens such as the SA Grill. Their website show this can be done on newer vehicles such as BMW's and such.

The yellow doesn't affect the bulb brightness IMO, although others may disagree.

I'd do it again if I bought another vehicle. Another option could be yellow bulbs?

Cheers!
Benjamin

I like the yellow and used to run the Hella yellow star bulbs but I was stopped on HWY 99 on the way to work one morning and ticketed for 'distracting other drivers'.

Bullshit but I still had to pay the fine...

I could have sworn there was a pre-cut cover that fit somewhere... I'll look for a bit longer but I guess after that it's arts and crafts time

Also painted mine with the stained glass paint, then clear on top. About 12 months and 13K miles in and still good.
