hey all . I have a question about titles in good old mass. So I bought a 1968 westy from my friend here in mass. he signed over a clean mass title to me . no date on it yet. he has since moved to new Hampshire. I now want to title it and then register it later ,probably next march. my question is I know I have 10 days from the date of sale ( that I will fill in when I am ready) . but does it matter that he now lives in nh? obviously he hasn't registered the car in nh or driven it in mass. for a long time. I don't want to date it and then have them give my shit at the registry. thanks steev |

Doesn’t matter. Once you date the title, the sales tax clock starts, though. _________________ ________________________________________

I find the RMV to be quite reasonable - they shouldn't give you any problems. _________________ 1968 Beetle |

update on the question I had previously. I went to the registry today , no problem with the title . BUT I had to pay sales tax . guess how much I paid sales tax on ?? for a 1968 campmobile??? bottom tier market value is now ..... $13,000!!!!! . holy shit. I used to pay 8 dollars for my 71 camper 20 years ago with a value of $600. I ended up having to pay $950 sales tax on a bus I bought for $1500!. granted now its completely restored and hopefully worth average of $30,000 . but I was not expecting that. heads up vintage vw buyers in ma. |

to clarify. meant the 8 dollars a year was for exise tax . in mass they tax you on half the value every year. the valued my old 71 at $600 so I paid 8 bucks a year. cant wait to get my next bill!! |
