Awhile back I saw a post where a guy installed bearings in the base plate on CB dual carb linkage to eliminate the play between the hex bar ends and the little ball studs. My searching has not been able to find it. Mine has quite a bit of play between the hex bar holes and the little ball studs in the base plate towers. I’d like to make this a more positive connection.
Anyone have a link. _________________ '65 Beetle "Lil' Lulu"- Ruby Red

I used old valve adjusters on mine. Swivel feet adjusters with the balls removed jacked into the ends of the hex bar. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

I like the bearing holder thing very nice so is the price though. But better than what I did.

Yeah- lotta gold for those bearing jobs but the inline ball joints look interesting. _________________ '65 Beetle "Lil' Lulu"- Ruby Red

Years back when I was running dual Dellorto carbs I became tired of them being out of sync all the time because of the crappy CB linkage, the arms them selves and the bell crank were fine but the ends of the cross bar would wallow out from rotating on the air cleaner base ball stud.
I thought a stouter cross bar was necessary for stiffness as well upgrading to a bearing and stud assembly where was no lost motion up and down or forward and back but the cross bar would move from side to side to allow for engine expansion.
I wanted to stay with a hex cross bar but in order to use the CB arms I had to broach them to a larger hex which turned out to be a non-standard size and there were no broaches available but I did have a nice piece of titanium 1" round stock which worked well.
I milled a hex on both ends of the round stock and then milled the corresponding size internal hex in both arms and the bell crank as well as turning a counterbore in the ends of the cross bar to accept a spherical bearing which would slide over the ball stud after it had be ground to a .250 diameter.
to make things a little smother I bored a .500 diameter hole though the end of the bellcrank to accept sealed ball bearings and a brass cable clamp for the throttle cable.
This whole arrangement worked very well for years.

Looks like I’m gonna try working with those little ball joint jobs. Not sure how I’ll deal with the engine expansion issue but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it. I’m always better at cosmo engineering when I have the goods in hand. I just hate the slop in the damn thing the way it is.
Whip618- I really like the looks of your setup. I think milling the hex on the ends of the bar would throw me tho. _________________ '65 Beetle "Lil' Lulu"- Ruby Red
