That front number plate looks like it's temporarily held in place with rope of similar. Does anybody know what area the BR letters stand for on the number plate? Look at the pronounced indent in the front wing/fender, behind the top of the headlight. I could do with a pair of those! |

BR is for the British occupation zone in Germany of Rheinland Pfalz

we used a pretty nifty spring contraption to hold temporary license plates in place, like dealer plates for example. really easy hooks on the back. put it on the bumper go around with the springs, hook it in. Voila! This is what it looks like.

Comments from "von split" who contributed the photo:
This photo is interesting because the first car coming off is a standard and has a football mirror.
The second car is a deluxe and has a square mirror. This may have been VWs way of using up parts and putting the leftovers on standards.
