I'm putting together a set of wheels for my 356 build. Decided on a lightened set of 951 spares. Drilled out two extra rows of holes, welded over the valve stem holes and relocated them to the inside of the rim. New weight is 8lb 14ozs each. Engine turned the centers and polished the rim. Medium grey powder coat finish with the cut edges polished.

Wow, that's pretty damn light. I'd just be happy to have a set of those undrilled. Hell, I'd take a set of the other alloy Porsche space saver spares (15x5.5 ET30). Lanner Khan has a set of those drilled the same way. I'm incredibly jealous.

Lanner has a set of 951’s but he hasn’t drilled out the extra rows of holes. They have one row from the factory. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

Very cool! What did 1 of the rims weigh before you started? Any pics of your 356 replica? _________________ On a lifelong mission to prove (much to my wife's dismay) that Immaturity is Forever!! |

Likely. We're set up to cut another set if you're serious. Lanner has 4 rims for sale. We would do the machining here in Ontario. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

My apologies! For some reason I thought you had a replica (guess I should have re-read your first post). Nice looking car, btw. Al _________________ On a lifelong mission to prove (much to my wife's dismay) that Immaturity is Forever!! |

No need to apologize. There are some beautiful replicas on the road. I’d love to build a track car from a kit. You can put a lot more VW power under the hood for a fraction of the price. _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom

Very cool! I visited Rod Emory while I was in LA and he had some there. Roughly twice the price of a stout stroker on a VW platform. I always thought it would be fun to build a fibreglass replica 356 coupe with 200+ hp VW power plant. Super fun, lightweight car, on a friendly budget.
A friend of mine drives a Beck spyder. Replica or not, damn nice car. Weighs almost nothing and scoots on a modest VW lump.
If only I had a bigger garage and even bigger bank account _________________ 71 Type 1302 Custom
