The 3 dot thing is a vent for sure, it's been too long since I've been close to an 003 so the other appendage isn't familiar, but it's likely a vent as well. Probably one for the trans and the dotty one for the final drive. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I think you have that backwards, you can see them both clearly in this picture:

Hmm in that picture they are both the metal three dot versions. On mine one of them is a rubber tube, I'm scared to pull it off since it is a bit brittle but perhaps the three dot part is underneath?
Any idea where I might source the part (or even just good search terms to use)? _________________ 1974 Westfalia, automatic, dual-carb |

The rubber may have just run up to a higher location, really lack knowledge of Bay Window Transporters with auto boxes. I would think the vents could be found readily enough. You might check at a local transmission shop or jobber. Surely a place like German Transaxle should have a source for them. I would think they would be call "vent valves" or "vent check valves" or something similar. You just need one with the correct thread, as a GUESS I would say that the thread is a M10x1 but really do not know. |

For my 74 bus, I have the possibility of buying either of the air cleaner filter. Type 1 engine, looks just like the bug one.
Filter and part number. This one is from a 1600 bus (like mine)
Other filters:
From a Ghia:
From another 1600 bus.
Which one of these would work best?
And, I still need the charcoal canister, no? |

Add this to your exisiting thread for better answers: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=693334&highlight=
They are all good filters, the oil bath never needs any replacement elements but still needs regular maintenance, I'm not sure if any of those will fit the brackets in your bus. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I've got a good one..
Im finalizing my 1776.. Just installing my intake manifolds and test fitting the carbs, I realize that one carb linkage connection contacts the fan shroud, and one is an inch or so away from the shroud..
Are these empi / redline style drla intakes supposed to be mirror or identical??
I have two identical...
From this image they looks identical:
This image SEEMS like they are mirror:
My issue:

Extra Stupid Question: Where do you find screws and nuts, I have limited access to metric hardware, so I'd like to know if there is an online source you use.
Thanks,

A lot of hardware stores carry a pretty good variety of metric nuts and bolts in all the little trays in the fastener section. They will often have washer head bolts that are grade 10.9.

Mine uses SAE 10X24 Wing Nuts for the two air cleaner post which are just 10X24 All thread. They are available at any local hardware store or lumber store. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

I love those guys.
I've also had good luck asking the folks at my local hardware store to stock more metric stuff. Once they do, I make a point to buy it, and they always seem to stock more after that.

Would you guys consider a Vaccum leak of 2 hg over 40 minutes on a 1971 brake booster to be bad enough to worry?
I pumped the booster up to 17 hg with a Mityvac and it's holding above 15hg for quite some time. _________________ '71 Deluxe Bus - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=659421&highlight= |

No that is hardly any vacuum leak for a booster. |
Cool. Follow up question :
If I have Mityvac hooked up in engine bay and pumped to 15 hg, when I press the brake pedal, the Mityvac drops to 0.
Engine not running, it's not fully installed yet.
Is that normal? _________________ '71 Deluxe Bus - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=659421&highlight= |
