I also tried too, but was too late. But I was lucky enough to buy the shoe boxes, so we all can be happy 
When I saw this tin the first time, it appeared to be heavily modified. Never saw the shape of the hole before, maybe this is home made.
Nevertheless, that's the real deal to me, because it looks to be pre 49, There is no hole for the oil filler tube, so it's from the era with the tiny oil breather.
