When I started viewing the forum, I was able to tell from one (or more?) of the 3 items at the far left of each topic what posts I had read or not read from day to day. Apparently something has changed (in my settings in my Control Panel?), and this convenient feature is gone. What should I do to get this back?

OP - did you have to log in to post? When you do log in be sure to check the box:
Log me on automatically each visit |

Something did change. Now there is a sessionID hash appended to every discussion you click on. It is a URL variable that looks like this (for me):

So what is happening is that your browser doesn’t recognize older URLs because the sid variable changes with every session.
Poor programming is what it is.

Yeah it still works for me. Sometimes when I log on, it shows all posts as being read.
Maybe you accidentally hit the Mark all topics read button? Also I'm not sure about the sessionID thing...the threads I read doesn't have the appending sessionID with the URL.

Shagwag, That happens to me; also the opposite -- when I log in, it shows all posts un-read.
I checked Log me on automatically each visit, and it appears to have made a difference; posts now show with and without arrows.

Yes, this is the normal way things work.
To be clear:
It only shows what is new since the last time you logged in, it doesn't know if you read it or not.
So if you don't read something with a new post, log out, then log back in, it won't show as new anymore.
