I have a 2000 VW Beetle made in Mexico. The chassis number does not come up on any Samba site. The 3rd digit, S, in the chassis number is suppose to be the model and although I definately have a Beetle the digit indicates it is a Jetta! Digits 7 & 8 codes 1 & B also do not relate the Samba site model.

No internet search for my Beetle's chassis number turns up anything.

What is going on??

Ron

Welcome to The Samba!

With your car being as new as it is, does it have a 17 digit VIN? If so, I imagine that the first two are either 3 (Mexico production) or 9 (Brazil production) & V (Volkswagen)

If it has a 17 digit VIN, try this to help you decode some of it.

the type is identified by the 7th and 8th digits. before 1998 you have "11", after "1B" as in your number.

see here:

edit: the "S" in third position is odd (theoretically the third digit should be a "W"), does your VIN area look like this, or is it molested in any way?
edit II: are you sure the "S" is not the fourth digit? in that case it would be normal.
