Good evening, boys.
Forgive my writing but I use the online translator...
Shortly I will start the repair of my Kafer Der Weltmeister, being the first time I will need a lot of advice and suggestions from you.
In the garage I do not have much space, so I can do only one thing at a time, I thought to proceed in this way:
Start the bodywork repairs until possible without dismantling the machine;
Dismantle the machine and separate the chassis from the bodywork;
Finish repairs of the bodywork;
Send the bodywork to paint;
intervene on the floor;
Reassemble chassis and bodywork;
To last restore the engine.
I think the biggest problem is the rust in the back quarter and in the lower part of the left door.
The floor should be in good health.
First question:
I live in Italy, where do I buy good quality sheets to be replaced?
What protective treatment should I make to the frame?
What type and brand of paints should I use?
Thank you.

Good morning everyone.
In my garage I have little space to work, I thought to start by intervening first on the points of rust in the upper part of the bodywork so as not to disassemble, and then dedicate to the lower part, door and internal front fender left
In this way when I separate the bodywork from the frame I will immediately take it to paint so I have place to dedicate to the frame, that to save money I'll do the job.
The first questions:
1) immediately to paint or should be sandblasted?
2) The sheets, where do you purchase them of good quality? I will also need the profile for the front and rear bonnet gasket.
3) The frame I bring it to brushing iron and then the paint, I could recommend sequence, type and brand of the products to use?
4) The rigid brake pipes replace them or I leave them, in front I already have the disks and I would put them also to the rear.
Forgive the many questions, but having very little place that time I try to leave as organized as possible
Thank you. |

It should be sandblasted with the body still on the chassis, since you don't have much space. You'll need 20-22 gauge steel sheets for the patches. Treat all the bare metal with a phosphoric acid rust killer until you get it primered. I don't think 4 wheel disc brakes are necessary as my squareback stops fine with just front disc brakes. _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

The sandblasting I can't do in my garage, too many windows of nearby houses, I don't have a garden. I'il take the bodywork from the sandblaster. |

Hello everyone. After so much waiting I started to disassemble the machine. I lifted the Erbatorio to start repairing the bonnet and other parts, the funds seem pretty healthy. |

I disassembled the interiors to check the floor for now it looks good.
I have a doubt: to check the heater on the left I have to remove the wires of the electric I found many cables disconnected and sheared. When I have to rebuild my beetle will I agree to buy a new complete electrical system or to make it myself?
The original one will be thrown into the trash.
Where do you buy the electric wires for automotive?
Thank you.

The bottom part could be fine.
But the left upright and the heater No...
The interior of the heater has a thin layer of rust, how can I delete it and lock it?
grazie. |

Hi reppe, I have used mecatechnic.com for parts and they seem to have a good range and fair prices, they also have an italian option for the website. they have repair panels and wiring looms. If you have to patch the area below the rear vent you will have to use a scrap panel cut to fit.
I hope you are dismantling the car methodically and keeping all the parts even if you intend to replace them. take lots of photos too, they will help you put it all back together.
good luck |

Good morning, thank you for your answers!
I found this engine: 1776 cc dual of the Ortho 40, flywheel attached, Kennedy clutch, CB heads, etc. etc. and on the engine is engraved the letter D.
The plugs of the oil tunnels were not removed so the Hoover mod was not made.
What closes the bolt that I have indicated with the color red?

I think that it is a universal replacement case and that two-bolt cover blocks an opening that could be used for an oil tube on some other model, not a Beetle. That cover has been tapped for a threaded hole that is now blocked by the bolt.
My guess is that it would have been used for an oil temperature sending unit. My case has a cover like that and I was thinking of tapping it for an oil temperature sending unit. _________________ 1966 Sportsmobile Camper https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...mp;start=0

That block could've been from a Brasilia. The dipstick had a special part to measure oil level. I'm sure I've seen a few around here (Chile). _________________ 1998 Volkswagen Sedan (MexiBeetle, daily drive)

This may be a little late but I believe this is the part you are looking for: https://en.hoffmann-speedster.com/beetle/repair-pa...t?c=142338
The only difference between the two is the number of door-screw holes and my '72 Super only has one. Judging by whats left in the picture you posted it looks like yous is the same. _________________ "Crouse" 1972 Super Beetle
