Yes, looks like a piece of pipe and a longer bolt.

Nice looking fog lights! What is the brand name of them?

They are Nocansayso Brand. Got them on EBay. I'll have to look when I get home.

And surprise! The switch came in today. This is actually a reproduction switch but it has the right look I was after.

Though it's got old style screw terminals like on my '58, I believe it'll work just fine

And it came with a nice schematic too

A year later....

The car is still running like a champ. Took her to two VW shows in Atlanta this year and she got a lot of attention. The last trip netted 32mpg. Still the most fuel efficient car I own. Temperatures have dipping into the low 40's lately and the heat in the car is just perfect. I've put about 13,000 miles on the car since 2014

Woo hoo!
Happy to read that and glad to see you back. Did you relocate the fog lamps and how does you 6v hold up with them, the radio, and phone charger after dark?
Cheers!
Mike

Thanks Eric and Barb! I'm working on the Moroccan Bug again too. Time for more "winter therapy"!

Mr. mike, I did relocate them behind the bumper and then put them back outside the bumper because the hood was scraping on them when opening. Not cool. The 6 volt system works well with the lights. Charger...meh, not so much. But it's all good otherwise. I'm sure I could get in there and clean up some connections...well a lot of connections and square all that away.

With all the attention the Moroccan Beetle has been getting, the Diamond got a little jealous and sprung a leak on the fuel pump. We had a heart to heart and she got her fuel pump overhauled today. She’s happy again

A valve adjustment, timing correction, brake adjustment, and a coat of wax, led to a trip to work on Super Bowl Sunday. This little car is a pleasure to drive.

WOW! That suck about the deck lid..... Same thing happened on my Wife's 64 (is this a 64 thing?)
It's a bitch the fix if you don't wanna ruin the original paint, But can be done.
Take that spring off before it does more damage...

Yeah, that's going to take some finesse to fix for sure.
I went ahead and removed the deck lid for repairs. It is broken all the way across and pulled the spot welds on the spring mount

Interesting side note: the '58 deck lid had a similar crack in this area
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I stitched that crack before I installed it this morning

Looks like I have a repair figured out with minimum damage to the original stiffener.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Step one was to bend the metal back into shap. Pliers, clamps, and hammer work

Crack edges lined up

Stitch weld the edges closed.
Next I'll remove the spring mount, fabricate a doubler, and weld it underneath th crack. Close the crack after that and reattach the spring mount
