Poor fitting rubber

Hi Folks

I purchased the replacement rubber for my low light restoration project and fitted it as part of the work of aligning the read deck lid. The new and old rubber are in this picture:

As you can see, there is a considerable difference in the profile of the rubber. The fatter replacement rubber has not really affected the gaps around the edge of the lid but the additional thickness makes it very difficult to close the lid. Have others experienced this and does anyone have advice on what I can do?

Yes, I have the same problem.
I asked about this about some time ago wondering what the proper profile for the rear deck rubber should be. No one responded.

When at Hesisch Oldendorf last year I noticed some Ghia had the deck lid seal matching the profile of the front trunk. It was made of the same light grey soft rubber from the OG german seal and not the hard black stuff.

I've ordered some from Rüdiger Huber ( https://www.vintagecarparts.de) but got something made of hard rubber and yet had the front trunk profile. Yet a third variation. I then did a trial fit and found it does present a lower profile than what I was using before. I'll trail it for now but will keep an eye out for something better.

I had a similar issue with an engine lid seal from a uk supplier ( not sure who made). I swapped for kgpr seal which was a much better fit and match to the original (given the condition I think it was original)
