The correct sealant for the case split is Loctite 574 and will allow the splitting the case easy. |
Starbucket, and what is the one, or correct/good one, for the con rod bolt and nut threads?
Thanks,
Dennis |

Nothing needed just the correct torque. |

Yes I know, but wouldn´t hurt securing the nuts with something. Was looking for the special locking washers both on NLA´s and Pelican´s webside, but couldn´t find any, or I´ve missed them, both search functions are just a disaster and sending query by email equals "doom´s day" waiting (now the rest of the order is underway).

The Porsche 356's the rod nuts and bolts had holes in them so they could be wired. At least mine did. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |

Conventional wisdom is that the old lock plates caused problems because the material was soft and would result in the nuts loosening in use. So use the nuts without the lockplate and do not re-use rod nuts, they are only good for one tightening. I don't recall if you can or should use loc-tite on them, maybe Jack will comment. |

The main thing you need to remember is that when you have torqued them, is to use a small ball peen hammer and a flat punch and LIGHTLY tap the rod and cap alternately a few times on the side by the split line to remove any stresses that may have built up from torqueing the rod nuts. Using loc tite on the threads would give extra insurance BUT all the torque specs are DRY torqued and the liquid loc tite will change that resulting in over torque so if you need extra ins. stake the nuts with a punch (although the next person to repair it will cuss you) or drill and lockwire them but I think they are hard and might need to be EDMed rather than drilled. |
