The new engine is coming together. Couple more things to address yet. Hopefully breaking it in this weekend while I’m in NC.
Anybody know why the coil bracket/ air cleaner mounting points don’t jive? Is it because of the mix of 15/1600/ 40hp parts? Coil mounting points different in a doghouse shroud? 1600 carb mounting slightly offset from 40hp?

Also, I need a preheat pipe for the left side if anyone has an extra. I didn’t see any in the classifieds

Nice looking motor. What version of the intake do you have as some have a small offset to help clear the generator stand/generator.

You are correct, look at the modification Greg noble did on his 15 window Westy. He had to move the tab on the oil bath _________________ SOUTHERN INTEGRITY AIRCOOLERS

Cool, I see. I might be able to handle that. Just wanted to check before I start cutting stuff up. You know, because I’m such a purist and all _________________

Looks like I actually need the ‘63 1500 air cleaner. Anybody got one? It’s similar to the 64-67 style, but mounts on the left instead of the right
Went to NC this weekend. Broke in the new engine, and had a turkey put it in for me. Did trans mounts, and some other stuff while the engine was out

looks great but why do you have the unclamped fuel line so long from the pump to the carb? Maybe I am missing something? |

Great looking bus! Anytime I can read a story along with a vehicle, its brings it to life, and that’s what the joys of driving these things are about, memories.
Reading that you had a “turkey” install the motor for you, I was like “ah, shitttt...”but no, literally there was a turkey hanging out
Love the light variations of color on that thing, a very nice combo. _________________ The Bus Barn Ltd. Co.

So I can temporarily run that fuel filter in the engine compartment. It’ll come out of there soon _________________

Whirlwind weekend last weekend! I went down to NC, did a bunch to the bus, and drove the shit out of it! All went well, should be ready to go for CTS in a couple weeks. I got a 1500 aircleaner, but need to blast/ paint it before install. Got a vacuum advance distributor done up for it, too. Didn’t take any pics of actually working on it, but here are some from using it!
First fill up
A buddy snapped this as I was leaving a local cruise in
Hauling some paparazzi around
Drive your shit!

This thing has been chugging along, running perfectly, so I haven't had any desire to put the vacuum advance distributor in. Maybe one day, when i'm going for extra points at the show.
Time for some suspension stuff! To minimize downtime I bought some 64-67 spindles outright from WideFive. Since this is a '63, it has early linkpins/ trailing arms. I bushed the outer linkpin races so the late spindles would bolt right up. Brake components are all newer, and i'll be going another route with those in the future, so I didn't bother prettying them up
New fancy red shocks from Wolfsburg West, and "upgraded" late style spindle clamp nuts from Dub Fab
New transmission up next! _________________

If you know the dimensions I would Check McMaster Carr. They usually have a good selection of metric bushings. They will probably need to be "fit" for the application but should be close in size. _________________ Independent German Auto
