I saved this picture of this car from somewhere?? I forgot where. It appears to be a pre 1950 rollback sunroof car body? The decklid appears to be a 1947 maybe??
Does anyone know anything about this car? or who owns it? Tim

Swiss Tuscher roll-back sunroof model. Most likely a 48- early 49. I don't know this particular car. _________________ 1947 Beetle

I think I’ve read that there are only 5 known Tucher roll back survivors. All dating from 1948/49. Built for the Swiss Army. The only one in the USA was brought in by Ed Economy in the mid ‘90s. He restored it and put it up 4-sale in the late ‘90s. Current owner is Ray Schubert in Northern California. His is a ‘49 example

That car was restored by Bruce Braun in the early 2000s. Jesse purchased it along with several other cars, all belonging to Bruce. 1950 Hebmuller, 1944 KDF Type 82 & the ‘46 sunroof. _________________ 1947 Typ 11a

yes I know, but I was asking about the maker, not the restorer.

The Webasto does not "roll" back.
It works similar to the Golde one.
It just has a differend mechanic.

It would be interesting to know if the DKW Webasto sunroof and the beetle one were the same or not. I have seen them on a 1955 DKF F89 model. Mercedes also had some but I am sure they were larger??
Were split beetles with Webasto sunroof coded like the 11G? I think early Ghias also had them. |

Both Webasto and Golde were aftermarket setups sold by dealers but authorized by VW prior to April 1950. I have seen one on a 48. From April 1950 you could get the sunroof from the factory and it was made by Golde. The model designation was first 11G for Export sunroof but from April 1951 it was changed to 12G (nobody has been able to explain why?). The Standard model designation was 11E. |
